In Das Boot the only thing the Kapitan says before leaving port is "Harbour Stations men!" and then the ship is shown already at ahead slow.I'd guess he goes inside and says "Engines ahead slow" and maybe something more but that's all I can tell you...not sure how to spell them in German as mine isn't very good.

From what I see you just have to tell your crew to start the engines and give them a heading.You can pretty much tell them that how you want,I don't really think there were "standards" of ordering your crew .But I might be wrong.

The first sentence which adresses the chief/Obersteuermann is unusual for the german navy. It reminds me of StarTrek :). The commanders tend to take their U-Boats out themselves.

So, standard command would be engine => "Both engines ahead slow" in combination with a rudder command to control the turn rate, such as "Ruder 7 Grad steuerbord!" => Rudder seven degrees starboard.

Engine commands in constricted waters like a bunker were often given more precisely in rounds per minute such as "Beide E-Maschinen 40 Umdrehungen voraus" => Both electric engines 40 rpm ahead.

Sounds good, but I'm not sure that it's possible for the U-boat to go slow astern, it might back into the dock!

Port 20 - I don't know how far away from the dock Port 20 (in St. Nazaire pen) would be? The course would naturally be the course to leave the pens, so the course need not be announced until out of the harbour.

So I think the command to go forward should be "Both motors ahead slow, (then maybe Port zero-5 or 7 to point the nose away from the dock and then after the Captain gets an acknowledgement from the Chief - which he will get automatically when pressing "1" for ahead slow, then the Captain would say rudder amidship, take her out"

What do you think, remember I'm leaving ST.Nazaire dock where the band is playing.

Understand your frustration matey! I once asked for an English translation of " Ei verbibsch " and not only didn't I get the answer, I didn't even get so much as a smart-alecky reply :cry: :-j

Anyhow, it looks like you are going to have to do a DIY job on this. Don't despair though, you've got a couple of things in your favour. Unlike English or French, German text (dialects aside) is pronounced as it is written and in SH3 you have a first class speech tutor. If you run a couple of single (or training) missions with German speech and text switched on in your game options and just concentrate on these aspects, I wouldn't mind betting that you'll get the hang of things pretty quickly.

Would have liked to have helped in a more concrete way but I don't have the equipment or expertise to do sound recording and besides, I'm sure my voice acting wouldn't pass muster! If you want to try it for yourself and get stuck please feel free to contact me (PM if you like).

I'm not much good at understanding what they say in German in SH3.

As for Ei verbibsch, even the German to English translators can't give an English translation. So much for online and downloadable tranlators. Sorry to hear you can't get any response either.

It's really too bad that those who can speak German fluently don't bother with us, because it's not a big job to simply turn on a microphone and use a recording program like Goldwave and make a wave file or a mp3 file. It's just too much bother, so it seems to me.

I'm sorry that you have not had any luck with your request. Have you tried posting your requests in the MOD Section. Also, there are a lot of modders who are currently very busy with GWX etc. They maybe more helpful when they haven't got loads of work to do.

If I could speak German, I would do it in a heartbeat as I think this has merit. However, I bummed out of languages so.....

There is not set lines as to what to say each captain has his own way my old captain from dart 8 used to say the following:

Ok chief now get us the ******* out of here i want to be in belgium by tea time
or when we were behind shedual
For ******* sake do you want me to come and do it you incompetant piece of s***
or when he was being professional
ok chief cast off all lines prepare to get underway ahead dead slow

Thats some of the lines he used but each tohis own.
