hi all, i was just wondering if anyone may have a reason for the following (bug maybe?) I have been playing SHIII for quite a while and GW for about a month. In the current mission i am in, i just finished an attack on a destroyer and went to the surface. When i attempted to leave the area i kept getting a message "not enough crew in diesel compartment". I then filled the compartment up with fresh crew plus an officer, and now i keep getting "unable to comply" when i request any speed at all. Is this a bug, or am i missing something else? Thanks, DJ.

i forgot to mention... i have no damage to my sub and i have over 60 meters beneath my hull.

Hi and thanks,

type viib out of wilhemshaven around oct. 1939. (sorry, i am on different computer right now so don't have exact date)

also, when i go to periscope depth and try the same thing, get the same "unable to comply" no matter how many crew members are in the electric engine compartment.

i also went to an external view and i there are definately no obstructions around me.

I got that, too. I wanted to kick some butt in the Bismarck mission, so I loaded it up with a Type 20. Same thing happened. From the beginning, it was only "Cannot comply" and no joy.

I heard that setting your throttle to emergency reverse (or whatever the "full speed backwards" setting is called again) is going to fix it.

Thanks! I will give that a try. Hope it works, it's been a pretty good patrol so far.

I've not seen that type of bug before.

Only one thought comes to mind offhand. Make sure you have patch 1.4b installed, and also the correct version of it for your geographical area. Tho the wrong patch for your version should tell you when you try to install it.

I ran into a really odd bug the other night too. I was submerged and started on a patrol course, it did three points of the course just fine, then started circling at 50m when it reached the fourth point!? Just sitting there spiraling, at first I thought something in the rudder had broken and I was spinning down to my death, but no damage was reported and after I sufaced it was just fine.

Odd.

This has also happened to me some time ago, can't remember if I was playing NYGM or GW...but I'd get the same message.I can't remember exactly what I did to fix it ,,but as it has been pointed out I think I pressed all the keys for throttle controlls and I think that fixed it.

Thanks everyone for all your help. I will try the throttle ideas tonight and let you know if it worked tomorrow.

I really appreciate you help. This is a great site with great members!

hi all. here is a follow up to my question.

i must have had air bubbles in my brain from being submerged too long! the whole problem is that even though i had full fresh crew and officers in the diesel engine compartment, they were the wrong type of crew. i didn't have any machinists (the guys with the little gear symbol) in the compartment. as soon as i fixed that problem, the props started turning and off i went. :damn:

just a dumb mistake on my part. oh well. thanks again for everyone's help.

Odd.

If you're below a certain depth the AI can't find the waypoint and just circles.

Glad the problem was as simple as that:DSometimes happens to me too -I place my torpedo-man or helmsman on the bridge and wonder why my watch crew is so dumb.
