Thanks to the dev team who are working on this new SH4.

Here is a big request, but one that will probably be ignored. It is obvious that there will be improvements in graphics and game play in SH4 over SH3.

I would hope that the dev team finds it in its heart to upgrade SH3 with the required code or game modifications to ensure SH3 is brought up to spead with SH4.

Many of us sub sim fans are more interested in the Atlantic than Pacific war, but will buy SH4 while keeping going with SH3, therefore I would ask if the dev team can help the SH3 mod community keep SH3 alive by opening up some more parts of SH3 code for modification, please help us keep SH3 alive rather than let it die.

Nice thought, but not practical on any level.

I'm thinking that SHIII will not die. It's the quintesential WWII U-boat sim! Just as SHIV will become the quintesential WWII US Fleet boat sim!

I agree with Driftwood and TDK1044 .. 2 seperate conflicts and now 2 seperate sims to represent them. Can't see SHIII being upgraded though as it would be alot of work for not much return I presume

But if SHIV has the new, improved code they say, it shouldn't be a big problem to declare SHIII a closed issue and release the code so other people can upgrade it themselves.

Thanks you took the words right out of my mouth and made them sound right, I wonder if this is possible

there was a post about importing full 3D models in to sh3 ... this if it is explored in the right way will expand greatly sh3 lifetime ... i can imagine the GW team working on a expansion to the pacific .

hummm this would make some people very concerned ...

As is usually the case with progress, I think 3 months after SHIV comes out, it'll be so good that you'll forget all about SHIII. You'll all sit around and laugh about how blocky the crew were and how all you ever had to do was patrol a grid for 24 hours. What'll finally kill off SHIII in the end is the more easily Modable SHIV code. It'll help everyone tailor the game to their particular tastes.

Are you still watching films on VHS tape? Didn't think so.

Many of us sub sim fans are more interested in the Pacific than the Atlantic war, but bought SH3 while continuing our 10-year hope-and-wait for a return to the Pacific. It is time that the fans of the Atlantic waited for a change.

I for one will still be using SH3 as its my prefered area of operations
Not saying I wont give SH4 a go

As for the more easily moddable code - where do the the devs say that ?
They say it will be easier to upgrade - no doubt by them

"SH4 Dev Team: The base of SH4 is the SH3 engine but some parts of the code had to be re-written from scratch. This will ensure that the game is easier to upgrade later and extend through expansion packs or further products. And, of course, there are dozens of improvements. We have the next generation here."

And if by further products they mean such as third party Ubi authorized trash like uboat-battle of the Med well then forget it

what is most likely scenario is after release of SH4, the mod comunity or third party developer might be able to make an atlantic expansion. It would really depend on how flexibly game will be made so let's hope the dev DO consider this and put a little effort to make our life not to difficult.

BTW, opening a code is very unlikely since the engine is pretty new yet. And I guess the right for making it open belongs to UBI but the dev. I guess the dev alone even is not allowed to realease a bug-fix patch without getting approve by the publisher first.

While I share your sentiment I seriously doubt that UBI will disclose their intellectual property

Upgrading 3 would be a waste of resources and money. They leave the upgrading for us to do.

I think they should do this, because it gives them the oppurtunity to bundle SH3 with SH4 without starforce. Having been put to great expense via starforce, it's the very least Ubisoft should do to regain customer confidence.

It would be a nice feature to activate the higher screenresolutions as done with the ms compatibility toolkit and the modified d3d9.dll

The other graphic enhancements are already done as mods, but the d3d9 trick is really bad, if you want to create a video or switch tasks.

The base code should not be the problem as it works with the tricked d3d9.dll. So only a parameter file is needed with the given resolution to support it instead of 1024x768.

This would be a great help for the community and the TFT users.

Please don't care, if the text is readable and things like this (this is a user problem) - just enable the resolution switch.

Thx

I dont see that at all
For the US players maybe but there are a lot of european players that have no interest in the Pacific at all and why should they
