But here's a suggestion: slice the bread! The thinner the better! Otherwise the mold will still grow underneath the surface and when you cut this thing for the first time after leaving it for 3 weeks in your moldetonator, you might scare yourself with the amount of rotten dust and putrid smell that blasts blasting out from inside as your knife cuts the outer barrier, which should be completely dry and solid by now anyway, you're gonna need a big knife.

Personally I have always put bread in the freezer unless it will be eaten within a couple of days.

Yes, but back then they didn't have microwaves with a defrost function. :D

I don't have a microwave oven at all. Still...I put the bread in the freezer, after having sliced it. It's very practical.
