I would like to add another installation to experiment with but after clicking Install, I receive the following information..

Error 1608: Unable to create InstallDriver instance, Return code: -2147024894

It's not the end of the World as I have 2 installs (one a Grey Wolves mod and the other is War Ace Campaign 1.8 Light mod)..Maybe you're only allowed 2 and I'm being greedy ? Anyway any help and advice would be appreciated.

:-? I cannot identify that error message so.

But I dont use the CD to create an extra Copy of the game on my HD

I just use an Fresh 1.4B patched copy of SH3 and copy and paste it next to it.
it takes about 10 minutes to complete but its simple to do.

No you can have as many installs as you like
I have 5 at the moment

Dont recognise the error message
I know it sounds simple but sometimes a simple reboot and try again works if you havent tried that already

Either that or unistall one of the 2 mods you have - through JSGME - and copy and paste that install to get another

Thanks for advice..this is were I went wrong, I copied a SHIII for Grey Wolves some time back and added GW (unfortunately not thru JSGME) then for some silly reason (old age ?!), I got rid of the original SHIII folder and don't know how to copy the SHIII_GW folder then take out the GW stuff (would have been easy if I'd used JSGME Verdammt !). Anyway, I tried to install and got that message but I tried a copy and added War Ace Campaign 1.8 Lite and runs fine and today I downloaded NYGM lite and added to another copy via JSGME (had nothing to lose by trying) and it didn't clash with Grey Wolves.. mind you, it's hard work navigating by Compass only but a challenge. I only use 'Lite' versions as my graphics card (NVIDIA 6800) can't handle the fully grown stuff..frame rate stutters and the pointer judders around the screen like it has had too many heinekens ! Especially in Harbour so will upgrade to 7600GT when I get my Pocket Money (Ha Ha !). Sorry about the long winded response.

I suggest you do a fresh install, and patch it to 1.4b; Make a copy of this onto a DVD and save it. When you want a new setup, copy this to the Ubisoft folder, renaming any installation in it first, and make any changes you want.
If you can't install, copy all of your installs to DVD, and then remove all SHIII files from your hard drive, including your registry and the InstallShield folder. You should then be able to reinstall SHIII and patch it.

I'm curious, why do you have 5 installs? Are you runing different mods in each one?

Have a stock one for online multiplayer
A GW1.1A install as it came
A GW1.1A install modded to my tastes
A Uboat war ace install
And a spare one :rotfl:

I have several installs also, but what I do is keep them on DVD's and copy them onto my hard drive when I want to change, so I only have one install at a time. I tried to do several at the same time, but I screwed it up with SH3CMDR by not rolling back when I should have. So I have just one install at a time. I also have two computers, so I keep NYGM Tonnage mod on one to play WAW

When I wanted to experiment with NYGM I moved my normal 'Data' folder to another place and renamed it 'Data My Way'. When I got done looking at NYGM I just swapped the folders. I don't know if that constitutes a 'separate install', but it works. You can have as many different games onboard as you want by just swapping out the 'Data' folders.

I get the same message when I tried to reinstall sh3. If you click ok it leaves the files there in the main folder but don’t add the shortcuts or reg entries. only way round it I found it when the install is done don’t click finish press ctrl alt del and then end the tasks, idrive.exe and setup.exe in that order I think and should be able to run the game then.

I think it’s a problem with installshield or registry problem. Only other way can think to fix it is to format but don’t want to do that.

i also tend to get error 1628: Failed To complete installation

Are you fellows telling me that you can have 5 different installs of SH3???
ie: 1 with GW, 2 with NYCM, 3 GW and modded, 4 a stock but modded, etc. How does this affect your registry??? Oh, I was told by a computer technician to never run a reg cleaner on the registry because they don't do a good job.

Robj250,
I mess around with my registry all the time, and I run Registry Mechanic to clean it out once a month or so. I have everything backed up, so I can undo if I have to. I have had computer gurus tell me to clean the registry out.
I have had to clean the registry to reinstall at least 3 times.

Hi Kaleuns,

because of reinstallation troubles with InstallShield have a look to this thread

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=97042

Give it a try - but do this on your own risc -> create a restore point before running the mentioned tool in post 6.

Greetings,
SSB

Regclean is safe to use. In fact, it got thumbs up from M$. I've used it at least a dozen times on my system and have never had a problem with deleting reg entries it deemed useless. It makes a backup of your original reg settings (that I've never had to use). Great little utility.

You can DL the freeware version here:
