Just bought a new system and it should be here by beginning to middle next week. Hope my FPS are much better now in SHIII. Here is the new hardware that I'll be playing on...Wonder how many FPS I will be able to get in heavily rendered ports? My current aging system gets about 20-25FPS and sometimes it ends up dipping down to 4 or 5 FPS :o.


I really wanted the Nvidia 7900GTX or the ATI RADEON X1900XTX but both were WAY TOO expensive for my budget (especially in their respected dual card mode <SLI or Crossfire>), so I settled with a single 7900GT with 512MB of GDDR3 RAM instead of the 7900GT 256MB GDDR3 RAM. The extra 256MB should help a bit! Anyways, I went with the new Intel Core 2 Duo processor line at 2.4ghz per chip since even that blows away AMD's current top of the line Athlon 64 FX-62 in 99% of the benchmarks I've seen (especially gaming benchmarks) and consumes a lot less power. I couldn't afford the extreme edition at 2.93Ghz and think that it's a bit overkill considering the 2.4ghz core 2 duo processor I bought is still faster and more efficient than any AMD processor on the market right now!

Congrats on your new system, but as for the 1900xtx, I have one and the graphics are no diffrent than the 1300 I replaced. But if you like games like doom3 the graphics are really great.

Hi SubSerpent, please let us know, via the forum, how the card performs.. I have a plain 6800 and it's no good in Harbour or with large mods added to stock SHIII; tend to use 'lite' versions of Mods. I hope to upgrade to 7600GT in the future.

I will do Kpt. Munson! Charlesmester, I'm not expecting the graphics to be all that much better. Well perhaps I do think they'll be a bit better with AA and AF on max, but other than that I am expecting more of the same. I just want the FPS to be much better than my current card can produce. I am also interested in seeing what performance gains I will get using a new core 2 duo processor with a much larger FSB and a 4MB L2 cache. Also, I am going from 1GB of PC3200 400mhz DDR RAM to 2GB of PC6400 with 800mhz DDR2 RAM. All of that together with the 7900GT 512MB card I am thinking it should bump me quite a bit in the FPS area. Who knows? I will post results in this thread with screenies of my findings.
