I am having a problem and am not getting any help from UbiSoft. I am in my first career and finished patrol 25 near the end of 1942. For patrol 26 I transfer first to St. Nazaire and also tried Spezia. I leave port on Feb 27, 1943 and everything seems fine until I save during patrol 26. When I try to load that save it is not there. Instead the last save is dated Dec 1942 and says the war has ended. Of course it won't let me go any further in this career. I am sure I am missing something but for the life of me I can't find the answer. Please help!

Mmmm...
1st question ''Do you run any kind of mods?''
2nd thing, try NOT to save while IN PATROL. and only save when ur in Ports.
(maybe that will help)
I almost never save in patrol unless i,m forced too.
because there are a lot of bugs when saving while ur under patrol and they occur when u load that save
for example I saved In patrol and when I look at the load
there where some strange changes
Type : IID (while i have an IIA)
The date was incorrect
and some other data was incorrect (cant remember what)
So since then I never save while in patrol.

Thanks for the reply. I am not running any mods yet. I will try the patrol again without saving during the patrol and see if that fixes it. Still wonder why it is ending the war in 1942 instead of May of 1945?

Its an Famous Stock SH3 bug, happens to more people there must be an solution but thats something the older guard of subsim can answer you that.
Look in My Documents\SH3\data\cfg\Careers\your kaleuns name here and find both Careers Cfg and Careers_0 Cfg and open them with notepad. Scroll down to the last patrol entries in the files and find the line WarOver=. Yours will most likely say true, just change it to false, save, and you should be able to continue your career.

Thanks for the help. I will try that .cfg file edit and hope that works. I am suprised that more people have not heard of this problem.

I just checked those files and both of them had WarOver=false. The career number is 25 and I am having this problem after I leave port on partrol 26. Any more thoughts or solutions?

Sorry, my mistake. I didn't skroll down to the last partrol. Warover= was true. I changed it to false and now I am going to try. Thanks again
Hope it works for you. It is the only thing I can think of to cure the problem. Oh, and don't be afraid to save during patrols, I do it all the time with no problems.

So does that mean you can extend the war past May '45? Has anyone tried this, can you keep going?

Well bad news. That cfg change didn't work. It now goes back to patrol 25 and says dead. When I load it is says "Career Lost" and you click OK and you are back in base after patrol 25. When I go on 26 and do a save it says game saved successfully but does not show up in the list. I am thinking there may be a maximun saves you can have. I have at least a hundred under the same career. Can anyone confirm or deny this? If that is the case is there away around it. I do appreciate all the feedback I am getting and hopefully will be able to resolve this problem one way or another.
This sounds terminal (no pun intended), but why dont you go back to say patrol 24?

I seem to remember reading that if you fall below a certain renown level, the war ends i.e. you've been dismissed.

no clue why the game does this. but to solve it. download the SH3 Commander mod. it actually has a option right there on the first screen to re-activate your career and stop that stupid "wars over" stuff from happening. i had the same problem you had and as soon as i got that mod. boom, it fixed it perfectly.
Punkrockike, SHII Commander is not really a mod. It's a separate program that installs to a separate folder and interfaces with SHIII. ;) I'm only say that as mod need to be manually installed, or installed via the JSGME Mod installer.
JScones would tell you the same thing, as he developed SHIII Commander. ;)

I haven't got too far in the war yet as I had to start from scratch (with 4 separate boats), after loading GW's. However, I also save several times in each patrol. Even though I am quite some way from patrol 26, I was wondering if the "in patrol" saves could be deleted after the boat is back in port, or delete earlier saves as later saves are added in.

I think I read somewhere in the forum that deleting old saved game files results in corrupting the game somehow making SHIII unplayable. Perhaps someone else could confirm this either way.

Deleting an earlier save automatically deletes all saves after, including the current one.
DON'T DO IT! :nope: :dead:

So does that mean you can extend the war past May '45? Has anyone tried this, can you keep going? No. According to the manual the war ends in '45 no matter what you do or how many tons you sink.

Yes the war ends in May 1945 but you can continue sailing until December 1945 (I think) but you don't get any credit for the kills.
