View Full Version : Ye Old Pirate Comix

Recently came across some old photostats of a pirate comic strip idea I originated in high school. This was back when I thought I was hot stuff cuz I owned a technical pen set for doing straight lines. W00t!
The pirate captain's name was Fatbeard. In retrospect, I should have named him Shortbeard. His crew was incompetent, jaded and bored. The sharpest of the sorry lot was a rat. Sort of a sea-going version of Crock. Most of the gags were at best lame and juvenile. Nice to know some things never change. ;)
Oh well....at least it's a brief antidote to all the heavy political stuff on this forum.

Those are not bad at all. The placement of the ship and crew in clearly modern times is paradoxically comic. You should not sell short your works, for if published, I would read this strip. If you were to update to your now, more sophisticated sense of humor, I think that this would be a possibility.
Makes a change to see something funny on here for a change.;) :rotfl:
Hahaha.. Excellent, Torplexed. You should definitely do more.
Came to think on a comic like that it'd be neat if the skull on the captain's hat would change it's expressions depending on the situation

It's better than 90% of the stuff I read in the newspaper. :yep: I've said it before, I'll say it again: get an agent and get syndicated. Pirates are really popular subject matter, there isn’t a nationally syndicated pirate strip, you know the material very well, you have wit and skill….. You are missing your claim to fame, Craig.

Not to lay thickly, but I agree. At this point, Craig, all that you truly need is a comedic agle, such as the ID-dominant humor in Dilbert, or the masterfully-done extistentialism of Calvin and Hobbes. You are very close to having something here.

...there isn’t a nationally syndicated pirate strip...
Actually there has been one for years, called Overboard.

Thanks for the compliments guys. :) Actually I did try to get it syndicated years ago but no one was interested. They seem to feel it was too derivative of what was already out there. Been a long time since I tried drawing these characters anyway.
Used to be more but all I can still find are some old ink studies.

There are only nine pins in the last comic...
Could this be subliminal messaging of some kind?:hmm:
