And so, who takes pictures? What camera do you use? What type of film? What type of subjects do you photograph?

My camera of choice has quickly become my 35 mm Canon EOS Rebel K2. I alternate between the EF 28-135 mm and EF 28-300 mm lenses, depending on what I need. My primary interest is black and white, so I use handy, reliable Tri-X 400, which is wonderful for photographing still objects in shadowy conditions.

I used to use a Canon EOS 600, and I love it and miss it, since I do not photograph a lot anymore, and if so, use a digital camera now. But the EOS 600 has been a fantastic device with superb handling. I concentrated on landscape shots, animals, and macro motives. Most I used a 28-80mm, had a apochromatic 75-300mm as an allrounder always in my bag, and did a lot of nature shots with a 600mm refractor (?). Film of choice was a special Agfa film, 100 and 200 ISO, for paper, and for slides, Kodak.I don't use that equipement anymore, and only occasionally do some snapshots with a Canon Powershot A75, that is a lot of camera for little money - I bought it when it was phased out and thus got almost 55% price reduction.When it comes to cameras and picture stuff, I am hardcore fan of Canon. My cameras are Canon, my scanner is Canon, my printer is Canon, and both items are much better than the Minolta (Dynax, only for a short while), Agfa (Scanner) and Epson stuff I had before.

I've got a Panasonic DMC-FZ30 digital camera. 8MP/12x optical zoom. I'm still learning the tricks so I think that'll do just fine for that.

I am also a fan of Canon. Recently, I bit the bullet and purchased a Powershot A530. As compact cameras go, it has very nice features, and I will admit that digital photography is convenient, but it will, for me, never replace good old film. You will never get the same quality, but it seems that 35 mm fading quickly. Since Nikon dropped 35 mm, Canon is the only major company that produces them anymore.

Still got my trusty Olympus OM-10 from an old college photography class. Unlike my recently demised digital camera it keeps working even after you drop it.

I like photography since I was child, but I never used professional cameras.

The russian reflex Zenit E, with his standard 50 mm and a 2X additional lens, was my workhorse for years; still occasionally in use, mainly for b/w, after 30 years about; great result, for something payed less than 30 €.

The reflex I used more, anyway, was the Pentax K 1000, with 50 mm, 28/70 zoom, 200 mm; still my favourite camera for quality pictures.

Since some time I have a Sony Cyber Shot Dsc-S600 as gift; thaks to his 6MP resolution it makes nice works, but I like it mainly as a really pocket size tool; not having the reflex wiew, it isn't totally in my taste.

Travel wiews, nature and portraits as my usual shoots.

Before i went digital i used a Canon A-1 35mm I bought at a PX in Italy, but my first camera was a Kodak Retina IIa. I still have both.

Great camera the A-1.
I recently had it serviced after more than 20 years of trouble free use.
Still use it with several lens and accesories :

Canon macro lens 50mm 1:3.5
Canon 50mm 1:1.4
Canon 50mm 1:1.8
Canon extender 2x-B
Canon extension tube fd 25.
Flash + motordrive.

Can't find the motivation to pass to digital reflex yet. :p

The A-1 is a legendary piece. It was, clearly, before my time, but so many of my photography mentors used them, and still use them.

Unfortunately, 6 MP cameras have recently become the standard. A 6, or even 5 megapixel photograph will take a fair degree of enlargement without distortion, but still lacks true fidelity. For that, they now have digital SLRs that go up to 16 MPs.

If you have the $3000 to shell out for one of those, first: More power to you. Second: Can I come over and play with it?

I still don't believe that digital reflex cameras have achieved the kind of reliability that normal film cameras have.
If you love photography instead of purchasing the latest and greatest dslr camera, buy instead a second hand film slr/dlr camera.
Most of them are inexpensive (compared to dslr) and you have a pretty good choice of lens/accessories which won't dry up your bank account. :rotfl:
