Well I'm using a xFx GForce 7800XT APG card and the chipset is just fine. At least I can tell you that much. No smoke issues or other sundery problems.
I cant see the PCI Express version (I know its a 7600 your talking about) being that much differant as to how SH3 plays (graphics issues). Basicaly its the same chipset so you should do fine.

I've got a Geforce 7600GS 256MB. The extra 256MB on that card won't increase speed, it is just marketing. the card isn't capable of handeling graphics wich would require the extra RAM. If there is a version with 256MB that is cheaper then go for that version instead since the performance would be almost identical.

The card is about as fast as a Geforce 6800. It runs SH3 well but not extremley fast. I wouldn't recommend it as a gaming card. If you want a low end gaming card then go for the 7600GT wich is as low as you should go if your'e buying a new card in these days.

Otherwise the card is working great. 2370 points 3DMark 06.

For SH3 it is ok but what other games are you playing or planning to buy? Also, what card do you have now?

I dont think it will really increase his FPS. They are most likely for multiple monitors.

I run a single 7800 and it does a fine job, however I ended up deleting the sub surface textures mod as that was a bit much in harbors.

Speaking of multiple monitors... check this thing out ! http://www.flightsim.com/cgi/kds?$=main/review/th2go.htm

Nice ideea with the flight-sim there .Pretty cool!
Oh and about the fps' .It probably wouldn't increase average fps' to much BUT it will have 2x the memory and 2x the memory speed so loading textures and things like you said in ports would probably have less or no effect at all.

I just got the 7600GT AGP version and my SH3 performance
went down from an ATI 9600XT. doesen't make any sense,
12 pipes vs 4. more mem. 128/256 and I bumped my FSB
from 133/175 then bought a Volcano extreme 12 cooler for
my XP2100 and run it @ 2.3Ghz. everything else runs faster
and my benches went way up but SH3 runs like total crap so
I guess I'll be trying different drivers from Nvidea to see if
I can correct problem. Sucks cause SH3 is THE game I did
all this for!!

I run a ATI XT850 256mb it runs SH3 well if you don't go over board with extras. I say save the money and wait until you can just get a top dog video card but thats my shopping style.

Just bought the Nvidia GF 7600GS AGP, but I don't know how it is yet, since I havn't installed it yet. The cards fits in the comp, but the box that pumps around electicity in the comp doesn't give the electricity we need, which is 350 watt.
My comp. pumps around 250 watt.....
So we bought a new box....which doesn't fit!!!!!!:damn: :damn: :damn:

Now we have to get one from Dell, which is A LOT more expensive!:damn:

For SH3 you really want an ATI card of the X1000-family. Their filtering is markedly better than nvidias and it really shows in this game with very sharp angles to textures and huge distances. If you play lots of other games however, I'd recommend the 7600 series without hesitation. Its cheap and quite good.

You will find that the 7300GT actually runs a little faster than the 7600GS and is also cheaper :). Im currently using the following 7300GT myself.

http://www.hardwarezone.com.au/reviews/view.php?id=1970&cid=3&pg=10

I was just about to upgrade this card to a 7900GT last week but have been told that 7950 GT's by all manufactures will be availble soon. This is the 7950 single GPU BTW and not to be confused with the dual 7950's :).

I was holding off to buy a 7950 but after doing more reasearch and reading about the ATI Radeon 1900XT I am thinking I will get one of these now. As not even the 7900, or the 7950 can come anywhere near it. It even beats the 7900GTX in some games and is also alot cheaper than a 7900GTX :o .

Either way you make up your own mind and compare video cards here :)..

I have the X1900XT and am rather happy with it. It is superior for SH3 but alas it comes with quite a noisy fan. I would suggest people skip this model for the X1950XT if they want an ATI card or go for the X1600 or so. ATI cards of this generation runs hot, and only the X1950XT has a proper fan that cools and isnt completely awful noisewise.

I am single and play with my phones on so the noise is never a problem. But my ex would most definitely have objected to the din of the X1900, so if you play in audible distance of your significant other, or with normal speakers, I would at least make sure to have the option of returning the card again :)

Have you plugged in the power cable to the graphics card? Many forget that these cards require more power.

Unless you need dual card capability, I would go with an single Nvidia GT or GTX card. If you need dual cards goe with the ATI crossfire series.

Yea. I plugged in the 12v molex connector at the back of the
card, even bought a new 500w PS too..I can always sell the
7600gt and break even on it as newegg does not sell them
anymore, I got one of the last ones. Maybe time for a OS re-
install, Haven't tried that yet...

I'm looking to replace my FX5600Ultra 256 agp with the X1600Pro 512 agp card. I've read that it actually is better than the 7900s in some aspects, and costs much less too.

I'd love an X1900 or even an X1800 but I haven't seen them as AGP cards. I think they only come in one flavor, as PCI-e cards. Yeah I know... I'm going to have to upgrade one of these days to PCI-e.

I still like my 5600Ultra tho.

I hope you dont do this, as many say this card is "fake". It does not have the capabilties to use all that memory, and besides, its a slow kind of memory.

Well I found the solution to my problem, I re-installed the game
and let it detect my new Vid card and now it runs great! Overall
though I feel ATI cards make this game look better but as some-
one else said there not putting a lot of the newer chips in AGP
format these days. My card has a special " bridge" chip that lets
it work on AGP since it's really a PCI-E part...

That's cool. Never heard of that. My comp. can only take AGP cards. it's an old Dell Dimension 8200 and it's original card was "Nvidia GF 4(!!!!)".....eeeh....that card suck....

So I got the Nvidia GF 5700FX.

DO NOT BUY THE NVIDIA GF 5700FX!!!!!!!

It broke down after 2 years, and I heard that it happens to alot of people, so be aware that this card is unstable!!!!1

IMO anything from the 5000 series is a stinking pile of horse manure. What ever happened at Nvidia back then is a mystery to me, but it wasn't making good graphics cards. Now the 6000-series that was some nice cards! I know several who still runs happily on their 6800s

I have run nothing but NVida cards and not had any issues at all with them. I have used the 5200, 5500 and now the 6200 OC 256MB. These cards have performed well for me. I have not gone much higher in the cards because it requires a larger power supply and I'm not willing to part with my money for that card/power supply combo. I will when absolutely necessary.

Everyone should check their virtual memory. SH3 is a memory hog and does not hesitate to start swapping between the hard drive. I do not care what video card you have...if the game is swapping and looking for memory off the hard driver, your game will not run well:nope:

I have an eGeForce 7600GS 256MB PCI-E I bought back in June. It works wonderfully and was the best bang for the buck at the time.

I had tried an ATI card before then and was reminded why I always had Nvidia. Screen flicker on startup was one of my main qualms.

Anyway, SHIII runs perfectly on my card.

For SH3 you really want an ATI card of the X1000-family. Their filtering is markedly better than nvidias and it really shows in this game with very sharp angles to textures and huge distances.
Can you elaborate on this? I found SH3 benefited from turning AA and AF on but that should be true regardless of the card's manufacturer, so I'm not sure what you're describing.
