Just a quick question, how do you use the External Torp's. You must be able to use them as ive returned to port with torp's not used, and yet all tubes are empty, all i have left is the external ones. How do i use them?

press "I" or get to your weapons officer and get to weapons management, when you have an empty slot on the internal stores, drag a torp from the external to the internal slot, it takes the crew about 10 minutes to move it in game time

EDIT: forgot to take into account my realism settings, look down further if you have realistic settings checked

pretty sure you need calm seas to do it also
No. I dont know why though.:hmm:

No, the game lets you do it in any weather. I only do it in a flat sea myself.

It takes about 100 minutes with realistic reload times on.....

With realistic reloads on, and the compartment running at 100% efficiency, the moving of an external torpedo to a torpedo room takes 40 minutes. After that, if the torpedo needs to be loaded into the firing tube immediately, it will take another 8 minutes. This happened to me on Type VIIB and C submarines.

Kind regards,

Eichenlaub

These are similar to time's I've been seeing. Getting qualified crew is key to improving these times and having a Torp qualified officer is a must! Then fill the torp room with whatever layabout swabs are hanging about playing with them selves until you get 100% efficiency. the job will be done in no time, in any weather from what I've seen.

If you want to be historically accurate this job probably took around an hour and half and was only attempted when stopped in millpond conditions if at all because of the risk of dropping the torp or some swabbies into the drink. The risk of being surfaced and stopped for over an hour probably gave even the bravest Kaleuns the heebie jeebies.

No SW, they will load in any weather. It might take longer in bad weather but they will still load from external stores.

I think you missed my point. They should NOT be able to load them in any weather. Pure speculation on my part but I belive they have to open large hatches on the deck surface to get the fish below deck.

I wouldent think its a good thing to have large openings in your deck in bad weather.

Yep bad weather loading would be very dangerous. If we had external torp moving animations with the crew,I'd like to see them doing that in a storm like in Das Boot for example...that would be extremely hard to do and many people would probably be hurt and the torp could fall or hit the walls and ...well let's not think about that:D
Also saw somewhere on the forum that electric torps couldn't be used as ext reserves because they required maintenance very often.

Firstly sorry it's taken so long to get back to the thread i started, now then thanks for the help, i tried draging them into position that didn't work and i tried through the wep's officer and that didn't work either, i was wondering weather it was because of the sea condition because i sure as hell would not open the hatches in that sea (mid-atlantic) ill have a look at the realisem settings..Thanks again folks:rock:

When you are surfaced the external torps should be bright in colour - they are shaded grey when underwater
Drag them to an empty internal slot
If you hold you mouse over the torp after it will give you a message such as not enough crew or in queue or time to reload ***
If the first obviously put more crew in the torp room - qualifications help
If the second message make sure the crew arent loading a torp already or more importantly you are not in silent running
If you are in really rough seas sometimes the boat will go under deepish and then torp reloads will stop and reset so you will have to drag them again

Just my observations

Same Here. I only load them in "Deck Gun Weather". I also slow to 6 Knots.
I have a couple of Photos of U-Boat Crews loading External Torpedoes. The sea in the background is nice and peaceful..:yep:

You probably already know this buta make sure your not stuck in silent running mode too. Crew wont even take a dump in Silent mode
