i've been looking up posts on the no credit for ships sunk bug, but cannot find one addressing my particular situation--
I was out in the middle of the sea at mypatrol area (AN11 I think) and spotted a lone large cargo merchant. I tracked and set up the attack for hours and then shot three fish into her and watched her sink after about two hours game time. but I noticed that there was no "shes going down" message even after i watched it sink at 500m or less through the binoculars! and then i checked my log and to my horror no tonnage or record of the ship!!! I did everything by the book, and sent a patrol report but still nothing...I did load a saved game which I was about 6600m away tracking the target...maybe its the save? Anyone have an idea? how do i edit the cfg to give me the tonnage i deserve? this is outrageous!

Hi mate!

It happened the same to me When I was using GW mod, I had torpedoed a ship with only one fish (Type II ;) ) and she lasted almost 2 days to sink. I never had the "she is going down" message and no log in my career :(. I think its a bug mate, perhaps someone else knows more about it.

It happens and that's just the way it goes on a rare occasion. Nothing can be done but suck it up and hope it doesn't happen in any more patrols. I've had it happen and many others have too I imagine. SHIII isn't perfect, that's why there's a score of mods for it. ;)

Really tho, and not taking anything away from how you play SHIII, it can and will happen. As said, hopefully only the once. You'll have many more patrols STBW, with better results. Just chalk this one up to the gipper. ;)

Don't mess with your config unless you really know what you're doing or you'll really screw the pooch for your career, and then have to start all over again.

Really glad, in a relieved way, to see this post. I had exactly the same occurance last night, with the same ship type (Large Cargo) and in a similar area (AN41 I think). Same sort of scenario re. hours of catch-up followed by near-perfect attack, watched her sink and then.... nothing. I even went so far as to reload the previous saved game and attempted to follow as near as possible the same course as before - twice. On both occasions I again spotted the Large Cargo and sank it again, twice. Both times with no credit. A very strange bug, a bit annoying but as has been said, just carry on and hope it's a rare bug. After that I reloaded the save again and just ignored the LC contact - I made up for it by sinking a DD & CM further down the English coast, lol.

Ok good to know i am not alone. speaking of making up for things--I was on my 9th patrol (first carreer ever in GW 1.1a) and doing pretty good I thought. I then sunk a small merchant and watched her go down, but to my horror saw a german flag sinking beneath the waves....should have id'd the thing...well I thought bdu would be pretty mad, so i decided to make up for it by sneaking into scapa flow and wreaking havoc so they would be a little less mad at me when i returned. well to make a long story short, that was the end of my first career. Its ok though because I couldn't sleep and continue to live knowing that I had killed my fellow countrymen. Hey why couldn't I get no credit for sinking that one!!!!??

The same happened to me in AN11. First when I hit her, I circled back to finish her off and noticed ther was no contact icon on either map :o . It was a clear day with calm seas and I could almost touch her from the conning tower. I watched her sink but didn't get a "sunk icon" on the map or a "shes going down" message. No credit either. On a lark I reloaded that patrol, Went back to AN11 and sank a small merchant with the same results. I thought it was the beer at first.

I think that you had the rare occasion to sink the Flying Dutchman... that’s why you don’t get any score for it :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Irritating I know but sometimes I just chalk it up to bad luck or interpretation differences. Battle has plenty to go around. i.e. Was the Bismarck sunk or was she scuttled?

They should of added a thing to the patrol report like if you torpedo a target but she doesnt go down when you get out of sensor range it would mark it down as a Damaged but unconfirmed sinking, which would grant you half renown of if you had confirmed the sinking:hmm:

It happened to me as well and I'm using GW. Got a single ship contact which turned out to be a large cargo ship. Made a perfect attack and hit her with two torpedos. Waited around and watched her list heavly to port. Fired a third torp from the stern which hit as I sailed away. Listing even more to port. Did not get "she's going downing" message but I assumed that she would eventually. Never did get the credit.

Lookouts spotted anouther large cargo ship a little later. Fired a salvo of three torps which all hit, then fired a fourth from the stern and then got the "she's going down" message and the sunken ship icon. Apparently it takes 4 torps to put a large cargo ship under.

It's a shame not to get credit for a perfect attack and a sure sinking. I know in real life it took considerable time for some ships to sink and it wasn't safe for the u-boat to hang around and watch. And many captains over reported their success anyway.

Is it possible that taking off the "Realistic Sinking Times" in the realism section, maybe this situation would happen less? Any comments?

I understand the damage method in GW but Supposedtobeworking and I both watched the target slip to the bottom. It had nothig to do with not hanging around.

How on earth did you wait two days !

1.) Without being spotted.
2.) Without running out of patience and throwing everything in the boat at it LOL.

I believe no credit for a sinking ship you torpedoed is "about" the same in Stock SHIII as it is in the other mods.... GW, RUB and NYGM. I also believe it's not changeable either or it would have been fixed by now.

So first of all, is it true that hanging around within detection distance isn't necessary to get a kill?

Secondly, I just downed a Passenger Liner last night. I saw the "shes going down", and saw it go down. Well actually it almost went all the way down. There must have been a little bug in the game at that point cause the boat actually froze at a point where its bow was sticking up roughly 25 feet above the water line. There never was a downed boat displayed on the map, but when I did a "Save and Exit" last night, I noticed the game showed me having credit for the kill. So since I read that message during patrol, will I still get credit after returning to base even though there's no display of it on the map?

Hit the "K" key to access your patrol log. If it's there you'll get credit.

Thanks. Don't know how I missed that one. I've used the F1 key many times and never noticed it for some silly reason.

DMI. Also I believe you DO have to hang around till you get the "She's going down" message or you'll get nada.
