I only a few minutes ago completed my first manual TDC attack on a lone merchant entering the English Channel! I was leaving St. Nazaire on my first patrol, Septembre 1st 1940, and as I was crssing the mouth of the English Channel I got word of a lone merchant heading NE into the Channel about 35 Kms SW of my position. So I put into action all the things I learned from Danotec in the recent thread of his called The Hunt. I met the ship exactly as I expected and then put Wazoo's tracking thechniques into practice. Since it was my first manual attack within a career I did about 15 range and speed checks before determining it's speed, course, and setting myself upto intercept. When the moment was right I fired my fish at him. Perfect hit! Also since this was my first GW career I was impressed by the wonderful flood lights that came onto me. But what was even better was that this Small Merchant that I'd hit was being followed by a C3! I hadn't seen it cause my WO could only tell me about the nearest one and I couldn't see a bloody thing since it was midnight. So here are 2 easy targets and since the C3 is on the same course and range as the Small Merchant I just quickly fired a torp at it. One hit and it exploded and sank immediately! (I didn't know they still did that with the NYGM damage mod)
So anyway I finished the first guy off with my deck gun as he had been rendered immobile.
Wow. I'm very happy.:D I know it's not an impressive story but I will say I feel like a real Kaleun now. No torps missed! Thanks Danotec and Wazoo and all the other people that I learned from. This is sweet!
