Hi, I am having a problem with the sh3 resolution change as described in the community manual. I have had it work for me several times in the past. I only got it to work flawlessly once on my computer. On another computer it worked but caused a bug which made the game crash whenever an officer was moved.
A while ago I formatted and have lately the urge to play sh3 again. Only now the resolution change will not work at all. The game will not load with it. I mean, it plays the first 2 movies but then just a black screen and no loading.
I have looked around for a while and I am sick of this so before I give up I will ask for help here. Just so you know I tried searching but saw nothing about people having trouble with the d3d9.dll file.
I really hope somebody has a suggestion or two for me because I just can't stand playing with 1024x768 stretched to fit my 21 inch widescreen monitor.
And just to let you know...
I have followed the instructions in the community manual. I have tried with a fresh install (1.0) and with the latest patch. I have windows xp with sp2 and I am using the latest drivers for my ati x800xl card (6.7 I believe).
edit! I tried different search terms and found a thread about this. Didnt read it yet but I hope it can help me. sorry about this.

Try and delete the two intro videos from data\movies\intro, maybe they are causing the problem.
If that doesn´t help install an older video driver or install the latest DirectX version (June 2006):

Hey Gizzmoe! Thank you for the suggestions.
I deleted the intro movies and nothing.
Updated DirectX and nothing (pretty sure I already had the latest anyway).
So I uninstalled my video drivers, used driver cleaner pro and installed the video drivers I believe the game worked with at 1680x1050.
Now I am happy to say that everything seems to be working flawlessly at 1680x1050 sh3 v1.0 with catalyst 5.12 drivers. Now I am going to update the game and install that huge supermod. I wish I knew why the latest ati drivers dont work with the d3d9 dll. Again thanks so much for suggesting that, I was going to ditch this game. And I hope others who had this problem try older video drivers too.
edit. Still works great with sh3 updated and running grey wolves mod.

Hi, I am having a problem with the sh3 resolution change as described in the community manual.
Where would one find this community manuel and a description of how to change the resolution in SH3?

Now forget what I said before. Older drivers don't do crap. I installed ati tray tools again and guess what? Ati tray tools makes the d3d9.dll not work. So I am now using the latest video drivers catalyst 6.7 and it works. Go figure. Well I don't really care about tray tools. It was nice but I would rather have sh3. So I guess those with an ati video card who cannot get the d3d9.dll fix to work with sh3 should try removing ati tray tools if they have it. I honestly had absolutely no idea that tray tools was doing it the whole time that I didn't bother mentioning I had it.

Thanks for the reply, Ilpalazzo. I can't get SH3 to load now, after putting the d3d9.dll in my sh3 folder. I've just installed the Catalyst 6.7 drivers and am running in Crossfire mode aith two x1900 series video cards. I don't have ATI tray tools installed, any suggestions?

The OSD causes that, just disable it (Tools&Options, OnScreen Display).

Have you followed the instructions of the Community Manual and installed Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit?

Oh snap I forgot. Turning that osd off fixed a problem I had with another game some time ago. I shall try that now thank you.
