OK, so I finally bought SH3 and installed it.
Now I'm getting the message "disk verification error" when I try to play Patrician III, which runs from my CD-ROM drive.
Can anyone tell me if this is a result of Starforce being installed with SE3?
I'm very unhappy.

Remove Starforce with the offical removal tool, then you know if SF is the problem.

To reinstall SF simply start SH3.
You can also try the SF driver update:

Also check if the Patrician III CD is dirty or scratched.

The Patrician III CD is fine; no scratches at all.
Other games I have run fine after I installed SH3. Just Patrician III gives me a disk verification error. Another game I have, Chariots of War, takes a long time to find the CD but eventually it starts up.
I have downloaded the SF removal tool and I hope IT won't cause probems with my system!
Thank you for the reply.

It may be a hassle but I would suggest you run the SF removal tool after you shut down SH3 every time you run SH3.
It reinstalls when you run the game so removing it does not hurt anything.

I ran the SF removal tool, and now I am no longer getting disk verification messages.
I'm so irritated that I've just uninstalled SH3.
I REALLY enjoyed playing it for the first time last night, but I am bothered by having something on my system that interferes with other games I play a lot. I'm not sure I want to go to the trouble of removing SF and restarting my computer every time I play SH3 and want to move on to play something else.
I'm very, very, VERY disappointed in Ubi and this absurd Starforce system-crippler.
There needs to be a "gold" version of SH3 without Starforce.
Thanks to everybody on this forum who has patiently answered my SF questions over the last few months.

Like I said earlier, also try the SF driver update, maybe that fixes the CD recognition problem.

I belive the newest version of starforce (4.x which i heard is microsoft certified) is far less nasty and is more akin to securerom and safedisk.

I'll wait until somebody else who has had Starforce problems has tried it, to see what they say about it. :D
I've wasted too much time on this game and I don't want to spend even more time on it only to be disappointed again. ;)
It really was a LOT of fun when I had it installed.
Thank you all for the kind and patient responses to my concerns.
