Just a quick question, were Hospital ships lagit targets? i remember our woodwork teacher at school telling us during the war he was a male nurse on a hospital ship off Malta when they were dive bombed by Stukas, and i wondered when this order came into force, any clues?

The Geneva Convention allows for all shipping painted white and displayin the red cross are not to be attacked.

Thanks waste gate, i knew when i was in the air force it was strickly forbidden but i didn't realise it was like that in WW2, but i will remember this if i encounter a hospital ship while on patrol:up:
Not only was it forbidden but in the game if you sink one you lose 10,000 renown points.
Yes sinking a ship full of wounded men heading home is not very friendly. At least that's one thing that the devs modelled right.

Actually the hospital ships are not from the stock game. The whole hospital ship idea is from the modders.I believe it was iambecomelife who was the first to make the hospital ship in the form of a skin for the ocean liner. Not sure who it was who made it -10,000 renown by making the hospital ships as a seperate nation.

I hate it when I come across one at night as it is impossible to ID them unless you get very close, like right along side. I have thought it was a regular troopship only to see (after I shot out the search lights) it had the crosses on it.
I have never sunk one but have shot up a few by mistake.
I love this aspect of wonder at night, very cool.
Historically hospital ships were attacked by both sides although in nearly every case by mistake as not knowing it was a hospital ship.

If a hospital ship is painted white with the red cross to basically make it illegal to attack why would they not illuminate the ship at night so that enemies could easily identify it? Wouldn't sailing at night blacked out actually (as evidence suggest) be more hazardous?

Im glad to see im not the only one who finds it hard to identifiy a target at night, even on my map every ship i encounter is marked in black, and in rough seas its very easy to make a mistake.

How far are you away from the ships? If its hard to id just the ship, must be real hard to ID the Flags? (GW at least)
I find within 700 or so Meters I can see flags, and tell what ships are which. But if they do turn on those Spot lights (IE they spot you) then its almost impossible to see much of anything.
