Hi everyone. New here. I just got the sim and have been testing it out. So far I'm impressed but there are a few couple of questions. I'm doing the navagational training scenerio. Now I completed the 'turn sub round to SSE', as it turns green indicating I've completed the first objective. Now the problem I have, maybe not but; is that the second objective says to navagate through the channel. I've plotted the course and used time compression to speed up the distance as it is too long of a course. Now I've managed to go through the channel out to sea but the second objective does't go green indicating I've completed it. My question is how far out to sea do I have to get in order to get the green light that the second objective is completed? Or am I suppose to go out to sea? It says navagate through the channel. It's not too specific.

My other question is how do choose the different free views of SHIII? I only manged to get the one view that is a pain to move around with. Thanks for any tips.

Hey and welcome aboard.

It's been so long a go when I was in the naval school so I honestly dont remember the training too well.
Doesnt sound too convincing from a Kaleun's mouth, I know.

For the camera modes, there's an other thread about it already, but anyways it's the dot mark "."

Main thing is dont plot it. Read the radio messages and follow them to the letter. If they want you to change course, speed or depth they will say so in the radio message, if they dont, then leave it at the last setting. Of course make sure your direction wont make you hit anything, small adjustments are fine.

As for external views, there are 3 of them. F12, , and . keys (or < >) and when you click on the event camera box.

f12 gives you fully controlable camera, hold ctrl to make it move faster (could be shift though i dont remember), < and > cycles between targets and your ship that are in sensor range and tracks them (you can still zoom and pan, but not move). The event camera box when clicked causes it to go to full screen, the box is activated when certain events happen (firing a torpedo, etc).

tiking,
I had the same problem with the navigate the channel objective not going green. The channel that they're talking about in the radio message is the first very short channel that you go through. You're through it in minutes. You don't have to go all the way into the north sea, and don't need time compression.
As for getting the go ahead that the objective is complete - I never got it. However, when I did the navigation training as an "exam" mode, I got credit for it and a pass on my record without ever seeing that one objective go green. A bug, I guess.
Anyways, to pass the navigation training, all you need to do is turn right a bit, cruise through the channel, and submerge.

PS - This is my first post here, although I've been reading for awhile, so forgive me if I'm wrong.

Thank you all for the support. I will heed your advice. Thanks again. :) So far i'm enjoying this sim, though it's just the training phase. Does anyone know if there is a patch that retifies this problem of the second objective not going green, like the first one? I was thinking that you could not continue to the next objective unless the last one was completed. If so, then it would be difficult to know if you did or not. Thanks again.

I wouldnt worry about it, just do the exam.

Thank you. Will do. I thought the exam was different than the training but it's the same. Thanks.
One more quibble. I also notice that when I get a radio message it doesn't show what message I got. It just says 'messsage recieved' Is this a bug?

Press the " M " button and will take you to the message page

Yeah, most messages do not show as transparent windows. You have to hit 'm' to get to the radio message log.

And as a side note: If you think the navigation tutorial is hard, just wait 'til you try the torpedo tutorial. It's a monster:o.

As for getting the go ahead that the objective is complete - I never got it.I seem to recall I do. I get the "you passed the test"-message, too. Strange.

PS: Did you try to dive and accidentally run your sub into the bottom? I did, and when my brother and friends tried the game, they did it too.
