I haven't actually used them in any of my boats before now. I slapped some Alberich coating on my precious U-516, and I'm not sure how effective it will likely be. To those who have used them before: how effective are the coatings? Are they effective at all? I'm using GW 1.1 by the way.

I used anti sonar coating and I am sure it is effective. I think it about doubles the distance for detection.
Anti radar didn't work very well for technical and psychological reasons;

You'll know when the anti-sonar coating is working for you. You will hear the ping, but not be detected. I guess the ping is just there to let you know where you would otherwise have been detected (localized, I should say).

I don't know about the radar coating. I have no doubt it works, but as for being able to specifically tell when it is having an effect over a clean hull, I don't know.

You can hear the "Ping" and not be detected without the coating in my experiance

Thank you all. I have been pinged before in 1941, but not detected. I didn't have Alberich then, so I can also say that's it's possible to be pinged but not detected.

i have not used any anti sonar coatings and i had serious problems after mid 1940.(57% realism).i believe that they definately work.when the germans make something i am sure it's gonna be good!:up:

I think what your refering to is the "We're being pinged sir!" message. And your right, just because your being ping, doesnt mean your detected. Its juat a flat, broad message when active sonar is being directed in your general direction.

But then again, im trying to remember a time when i acutally got pinged AND got a "we've been detected sir" message. I dont think you get that message at all where active sonar is concerned, so your always guessing in that regard. A big clue is when you get "we're being pinged" and the DD drops his eggs when hes not on your position.

My wonder about radar coatings, is , does this apply to the hull? The conning tower + hull? Ideally it would be cool if this applied itself to the snorkel, but im pretty sure it does not.

You'd think that the snorkel would be the most important one to coat!

I use both the sonar and the radar coating and they still find me but am getting as close as 700m to the escorts before they find me.

I remember I had just got out of the port of Dover on my first patrol with Alberich on my sub and after 15 or so minutes I had four V & W's all around me and I could hear the low ping (close but not close enough my friends!). I knew they were close when I listened for them on my hydrophone. I could even hear them while slowly sweating it out in my command room. Danke Alberich! :up:
