View Full Version : Which NVIDIA cards does SH3 work with?

Me again. Still thinking of buying SH3 in spite of Starforce.

I noticed on the SH3 box that only certain NVIDIA video cards are supported. Since the game was released, support for some cards may have been added.

I have a NVIDIA GeForce FX5500. Does anybody else out there run SH3 with that card?

Yup, it will work fine with 5500.

The man wanted some information about his 5500....not your 6600. And BTW...what kind of 6600 with 512 Mb do you own ? Is it an experiment...? Cos' I've never heard of them.

Ja, ok. It's weird though, these cards are not common, what brand is it ? The fact still remains that Antonin isn't interested on how SH3 runs on 6600.

I have the NVidia GeForce FX5700 256mb graphic card with the most recent driver 91.31 installed and have never had any problems with Silent Hunter3.

I'm running a GF 5600Ultra 256mb card with 71.89 drivers which work well. Haven't tried the newer ones yet.... chicken because I've had no problems so far. ;)

Go here to find the older cards mixed in with the newst ones.... http://www.pricewatch.com/video%5Fcards/ and look in Cards- Video section here: http://www.pricewatch.com/video%5Fcards/. Check often as there are some good, and different, deals every day.

So far I have run it on a 6600GT with 128MB ram and it ran perfect. That card is being RMAed for a replacement since it died.

Now I am running on a 5900XT 128MB and it runs ok..not to bad but still not to good.Convoys are impossible to hit with it as my FPS drop to single digits and harbors are almost as bad.

Thats on a 3.0GHZ Intel CPU and 1GB of RAM system.

So I am letting SH3 sit for awhile as I wait for my replacement card to arrive.

It is not hard to beleive at all since one of my computers running fine with geforce3 ti-500, and I never had a bow-spray bug problem with this card.

I do know one nVidia card that won't run SHIII. The GF MX420 64mb card in my Compaq Presario 6000, and no fan on this card. An error pops up when installing the game that the card will not support running SHIII.

Capt. Frank, I know of others running SHIII with the same card as you with no problems either. A good GPU it tis.

My Radeon 9600 (I know, not what the OP has.) Works OK, but the GPU resets about once an hour. More in vannilla, less since I got NYGM 2.0.

Ran for a while on GeForce 6600 128Mb, upgrades to 2 x GeForce 7600GT 256mb. Plays great, less stuttering....

I actually had that card (256 MB) when SH3 first came out, and had no problems with SH3 on it. Maybe the error lies somewhere else?

I have a 6600GT PCI-Express, and it's all fouled up...when I load the game the help menu pops up and I can't close it...I think this may be b/c the save file I use is from a patch and I had to re-install SH3...for some reason it won't let me patch it...

Its GF4-TI4200 128MB here. And everything is working fine. I had not a single glitch - sometimes low frames in port and in smoke - but less than could be expected.
