I was on patrol yesterday, 1940, English channel, late evening, dark but clear skies. I had a TF coming up from behind with a Didi? Light Cruiser escorted by 6 destroyers. I evaded them and carried on in their track. To my surprise I met it again further into the channel, sinking? Bug or Luftwaffe?

Was it bad weather? Sometimes ships sink because of bad weather. I never saw a war ship sinking because of bad weather, only small merchant ships though. Probably it colide with something? Runagroud?

Occassionally a Flower class corvette will go down because of the weather, which is silly because the real ones were praised for being drier ships than destroyers, and riding the waves better.

On the subject, I've never seen something the size of a light cruiser sink from bad weather either.

It was only 5 m/s, and travelling in the middle of the channel, so it couldn't be the weather nor running aground. Maybe a mine? Is the channel mined in RUb 1940?

One time when I was attacking a task force, the Luftwaffe just appeared out of nowhere and bombed the remains of the TF into hell. Every remaining ship the convoy just blew up at the same time and I saw German planes flying through the area at about mach 1.

It was the most spectacular timing, too. I'd just torp'd a battleship and the escorts were looking for me as I started a deep dive. I just happed to be looking at my handywork with the external cam when the Luftwaffe showed up. Most surprisingly, I say.

So, I think that ship might've been bombed out or run aground. It's possible it was bombed out right at the edge of the 20km physics model as you were entering or leaving.

Do you ever get your radio op to send in contact reports? The reason I ask is I had torpedoed a vessel in the North Sea and she would not sink. As I had no torpedoes left I sent in a contact report and waited around. First, two Condors flew over and circled a couple of times then flew off. Later a single Junkers bomber arrived and dropped two bombs on the crippled ship, immediately breaking her back with the second bomb. It was very spectacular and I find it amazing how these things are written in to the game play.

The only time I have seen fat Hermans sky jockeys is when I leave port
No matter how many contact reports I send

Aha, yes i did send a contact report on that H/K group so maybe it was LF then. But it was kind of late, maybe the last flight? Sehr gut!

I never send contact reports,I think they do nothing My patrol grids are so far out,the Luftwaffe would be hard pressed to get there, and I have yet to see them fly boys attack anything in mid atlantic, let alone takeing on the Hurricanes and sunderlands.

I've sent contact reports and sat back and watched the flyboys come and take out my ships. Quite cool to watch. This seems to happen more often when I'm scooting close to Scandinavia.
