Another thread mentioned popular songs for the gramophone folder. My crew love to play the 'Westerwald Lied' every time we have sunk an enemy ship, and they also insist the RO plays it every half-hour or so once I have ordered 'return to base!' I think they like the whistling in the chorus after the choir sings 'Über deine Höhen pfeift der Wind so kalt' ['Over your tops cold wind blows'].
Can anyone remember reading a U-Boat memoir which mentioned the crew's favourite song was "Uncle Eduard from ?????" and if so, does anyone know if that song can be found anywhere, please?
What is your crew's favourites?

I apologize for always asking questions but not having any useful tips for all of you (yet). What is involved with adding music to my folder? I love the GW soundtrack but my crew would like a change of pace at times. I especially would like to add the Das Boot theme - Lars

No apologies necessary, I'm sure.
This is how I add more music:
Go to: Program files\Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII\data\Sound\Gramophon e
Paste any mp3 files you like into there. Then use SH3 Commander v2.6, click on SH3 Options, and on the first page (Career Options) tick the last line: 'Randomise gramophone tracks'.
Mind you, I do not know how to play a certain song/tune at a specific time so, for the likes of 'crew favourites' I have burned a CD with their Top 20 tunes and keep that in my hi-fi when playing the game. Then if I want to hear a special song after sinking a ship I play it from the hi-fi! :88)

My boys always request the music of the 'Comedian Harmonists'. A special favorite is Wochenend und Sonnenschein, a German rendition of Happy Days Are Here Again.
It's one of the huge number of songs on the 'German Hits' collection, available at http://u-boot.realsimulation.com.

Yes! That's another one I burned on to my Top 20 CD. I think it sounds better than any English version I've heard.

Thank you Henry, I'll give it a go. I imagine SH3 Commander v2.6 works well with GW's ?

I am using RUb, but from what I have read SH3 Commander works fine with GWs.

When spirits are up the crew like to listen to Die Jugend Marschiert, reminiscing about young carefree days before the war. Heil Deutschland is a favorite when we're headed home after a successful patrol. And although probably frowned upon, a little Glenn Miller - Moonlight Serenade just sets the mood on those surface night patrols.

I tend not to listen to the gramaphone my engine noise seems to drown it out, normally I'll put a cd into the stereo and listen to it like that.

It took a while, but Stéphane Grappelli and Django Reinhardt have become the firm favourite with the crew.
When you can listen to the Hot Club of France, dodging DCs doesn't seem so bad.
OK Himmler doesn't approve of 'degenerate' jazz, but sod him.

"doe's eat oats, little lambs eat ivy, a kid'll eat ivy too, wouldn't you?"...for something a tad whimsical.
The crew seems all agog & swarmy whenever, Marlene D. is singing, and of course, a selection from Wagner when their blood is up.

This may sound a bit strange to you guys but my crew listens to Sergio Leone's spaghetti western soundtracks. It makes for fairly exciting hunting , DC, and running music. Old Clint wound have looked good in a Kriegsmarine uniform! His accent would need a little work be he always sported that "weeks out at sea" look in those movies.

I once met a former E-boat sailor (he was the guest of honour at a reunion of my father's MTB flotilla), and he said that his crew chose 'In The Mood' as the unofficial signature tune of their boat. Of course they had to play it very quietly when they were in port!
I swear if I hear Stern Von Rio one more time I shall order my crew to place it into a torpedo tube and blast it into the sea. :x
I like to play the Tipperary song, my watch crew start smiling to that one I wonder why. ;) :D

Thanks for that link to the German military music "catar M"! I have been dying to dump the 1940's popular songs from the gramaphone and this thread not only showed me how, but where to get some new stuff!
I know, the guys in the boats liked the US popular music of the period, but I don't, albeit the outcast that I am.
Wouldn't mind a link to more Wagner in mp3 format if anyone knows of one.
My crews favorite music isnt music, its XM satalite radio... specificly Sonic Theater  AKA I dont turn on the ingame music and turn on my real life radio :p

I removed almost all the GW songs, but kept "It's a long way to tipperary", "Deutschland über Alles" and a few more.
Does the gramophone have any effect on crew morale or anything at all?
When sinking slowly, and can't repair i put on the gramaphone ' Under pressure ' by queen :p

My crew prefers American music, their favorite is from the InkSpots "If I didn't care" from 1938.
My gramophone plays Rammstein - crew loves it

My crew and mine favourite song is „Jestem pudel z Gwadelupy” (”I'm a poodle from Gwadelupa”) by a Polish band. But Russian traditional songs are also very popular, not mentioning Vladimir Vysotski or Bulat Okudzhava…

My crew opts for upbeat jazz. "Juin" is a favorite. Some others are "Hallo Fraulein" and just about anyting from Edith Piaf, "The little sparrow". I was listening to "Mariandl", which is really catchy (you'll find yourself humming the tune out of game if you listen to it), but read somewhere that this song was sung by Petula Clark (of "Downtown" fame), so it's not WWII vintage. If anyone knows differently, please advise.
Oh, and by the way, in the "Ultimate Gramophone Pack - 150+ Tunes", "Under the Sea" is not sung by Frank Sinatra - that's Bobby Darin. ;)

"Durch deutsches Land marschieren wir”
I find myself humming it at work, and then I realize it's a friggin Schutzstaffel marching song. Kind of awkward! :rotfl:

What is your crew's favourites?
Sorry if that has been answered already (i didn't read the entire thread), but the song is "Mein Onkel Eduard aus Bentschen" and it was the favourite song of Jost Metzler's crew of U-69. (Metzler, Jost: The laughing cow, 2004).
If you google for it you'll find an iPod download of thze song, I'm sure.
My crew's favorites are all Hans Albers songs (except for the "Flieger Lied" which they of course hate ;) ), all kind of shanties and, after passing the minefields before entering port, they insist on hearing Gustav Gruendgen's "Die Nacht ist nicht allein zum Schlafen da" four or five times in a row...
Cheers,
AndyW
