View Full Version : Hydrophone report bug?
When I submerge the hydrophone operator usually forgets to tell me of hydrophone contacts that were reported in a previous submerged listening.
Sometimes he still reports contacts after I have surfaced, when in follow contact mode.
The watchman also sometimes forgets to tell me about new sigthings.
I recently installed SH3 Commander 2.6 and I am using RUb 1.45. I think this started when I installed SH3 Commander 2.6. Any suggestions?
Are the contact neutral?? My watch usually ignores the neutral ships.

Hmm, I think I sank the ship and got allied tonnage for it. I wish I had a logbook, that would be really nice!
Edit: Now I think I remeber it might have been a Trawler...

I never trust my hydrophone op - often he will report no sound contact and when I spin the wheel it almost blows my eardrums off. That department has never reached full efficiency for some reason (green bar along the top) like all of the other depts.
Now I had an encounter with a Neutral ship and the watchcrew didn't report it. Heck, there's the danger of colliding with it, no? Listen up crew! I want reports on everything new that's moving, understood?
And then it's strange that the watch can identify a merchant from a warship when I have problem seeing the smokestack at all in the horizon. Destroys the immersion/realism factor completely in that regard. Is it possible to turn off the identifying message?
Edit: I think the hydrophone reports works better now. I unchecked the "No Map Contact Update" as supposed to in RUb.

Can't they tell the difference by the prop sounds? I think there is a hydrophone mod somewhere which you can put in the academy and get lessons on identifying different types of ships.

I've also had the soundman continue to follow contacts after I had surfaced. I doubt it as anything to do with SH3 Commander.

I am surfaced, so I shouldn't have any long range hydrophone contacts.

I have also had the soundman follow while surfaced and at speed. I have not yet installed Commander but am using GW. Try using a petty officer with radio qualification in the hydrophone position and the efficiency meter will move to green.

I have petty officers in both the radio and sound operators posts and they both have radio qualifications. The green bar only moves about halfway across the meter.:damn: Every other department is now at maximum efficiency. If they do not improve on the next patrol I will transfer the two blighters! :arrgh!:

promote them to higher ranks, if they are just normal petty officers you won't get more than half of the bar even with qualifications.

This game is driving me :damn: :damn: LOL! I suspected that might be the reason and had been trying to promote them both but always got knocked back with the message 'too inexperienced' in SH3 Commander, and this after 8 patrols! However, I've since done another patrol so have just opened up SH3 Commander and tried again after reading your message. First one - no joy, he is still too inexperienced. But the second one :sunny: Well, he is buying the drinks in the club tonight as his promotion went through fine. He must be brighter than his chum as they have both done the same number of patrols. Thanks for the tip.

I don't know how long it took to get enough experience for a promotion, because normally I just try to give qualifications to the men with the highest rank, and I also spend some reknown at the start of the carreer for petty officers who are already fully promoted.
