After doing some reading I came across some interesting facts concerning Torpedo Loads and usage. My sources are U-Boats by David Miller and Hitler's U-Boat War, The Hunters by Clay Blair

Here is what I found:

The Steam Torpedo (G7A) had three speed settings, but the fast setting was found to overload the engine so that setting was banned from use.

The Electric Torpedoes (G7E) could not be carried externally since they required more care and maintenance, and could not handle the external conditions. Only Steam Torpedoes were carried externally.

External Torpedoes could only be brought below in calm sea conditions. During the loading of externals it was impossible to Crash Dive with all the crewmen on deck.

The magnetic pistol was continually found to be faulty and was banned several times by Donitz starting in October 1939.

So to play more realistically with the Torps I:

1. Never Use the fast Setting with the Steam Torpedoes
2. Only load Steam Torpedoes in the External Spaces
3. Only load externals into the boat during calm weather (deck gun weather)
4. Don't load externals if enemy are nearby or in air range during day
5. Only use the Impact Pistol

Food for thought! :yep:

Indeed i had found the same thing. The magnetic pistol faults are "simulated" a bit in the game ,and we do get radio comms from BdU ,and we are told that we should not use the magnetic pistols. The rest ...i don't think are implemented.Maybe in SHIV:).

After the faults were corrected on the magnetic pistols, impact pistols became ineffective.

Well yeah...but you could use them as magnetic:) check the TDC manual for the ships lenght underwater and send the impact eel almost at the bottom,so it will explode pretty much under the hull, but won't bounce off.I love to do that with small destroyers like the VW or C class. The hole is almost as long as the hull :D
