Sorry, can't share the pics, but I'll tell what happend:

In sept. 1939 at AN81 I took a routine periscope look and I spotted something strange bearing 334. I zoomed in and it looked like a wreck with fire on the deck. There was no contacts before this, on that day. I thought we might be diving in the middle of the minefield (yeah, strange place, so far away fm any coast), so I orderd the boat on the surface and change the course to get closer, with slow speed.

It was a wreck. A ships bow raising out fm water, small fire on the top.
Because I was sure there is no other own units on the area, I "sent the divers in" (ext. cam.) and saw it was actually just half of the some merchant! :o

Just wondering how it got there? :hmm:
Are the wrecks saved? I'm asking this, because few gamedays before I sinked the freighter about 30 nms to east fm the point we found the wreck. The ship we sinked was cut to half, so now I'm thinking if the bow part of that ship really traveld those 30 nms in two days?

I saved, exit and loaded the game more than one time between the sinking and the day we found that mysterious wreck. I don't think it was a mine which caused this ship to sink. Especially bacause the stern part of the ship was missing.

Now that's weird...maybe the ship was cought by a storm and was torn in half?Or perhaps it was sank earlyer by friendly units...but usually the stern/bow doesn't "float" by itself....
Also,from what I have seen,the wrecks are saved for some time ,but afterwards they just "dissapear".
Sometimes,but very rarely,depending on where on the hull the ship is torn,one part ,the stern or bow ,can't sink because the other part goes down first and ,although the 2 parts should "pass trough eachother" sometimes they don't ,and one part seems to float a bit untill finally sinking

He mentioned using NYGM in another thread,so i don't think enemy subs could've done that.But,who knows,maybe he changed mods.

Well, I've experienced something similar though on a much smaller scale...

I had a mod which also incorparated the allied landings in Norway. Not sure which now, i'm reinstalling the game and picking up the bits and pieces. After receiving the contact report i went for the bay where this taskforce was.

During stormy weather i attacked and a Fiji light cruiser was broken in half. In about 3 hours while i was making my way through the bay i noticed that the waves were pushing the bow of the destroyed ship to the coast were it eventually landed ashore. I figured it was intresting.

As for the sinking reason of your sighting, perhaps the Luftwaffe had bombed it ?

Hello bigboy!

NYGM 2.01, + some minor mods which can't be the reason. Never seen that before, or heard.

And for enaceo:

Strom is out of question. There is no storm which can cause the sinking. Not in SHIII. Or at least the ship should take some damage fm the torpedoes, gun fire or in some other way.



Because there was no other part of the wreck, only conlcusion I can do is that the sinking didn't happend on the point where I found the wreck lying. Strange thing was, it was hitting the sea floor all the time, so how in... did it moved at all? DUNNO, have to say.

Yep! I can immagine this happening.
The strange thing in my case is that I travelled maybe 50 nms off the place of the original sinking and that I saved, exit and loaded the game at least two or three times before I found that half of the wreck. I thought thw wrecks are not saved if you travel far enough. But maybe I'm not right.

Well, anyway this was something really interesting and surprising. This really made the game feel not a game at all for the few minutes! :up:

Or the Black Pearl? But if it really was the FDman, then I think the glory will belong to Luftwaffe... But in that, or any other case, I think we'll never hear more about the case. Immagine the fighter pilot reporting for the senior officer: "Sir, shot down unknown ship, Sir!" Propably no one would hear anything anymore about that pilot... Never, ever... :dead:

GW incorporates enemy subs i belive...
Storms in the game can sink a ship if it is small enough (i belive the small merchant/steamer is about as big as they can get ,but i'm not sure).But i was actually saying maybe the part of the ship that was missing was pushed away by the storm or waves,like someone else said.

GW incorporates AI german subs
U-boat War Ace (Wolfpack) has german AI wolfpacks http://web.telia.com/~u18230645/ get it here
There are also a couple of other subs you can download on that page
The S class you can add as a British/US sub and serg is working on another US sub the Baleo class

Hey-can you put those subs on a non-gw game?Like in NYGM or stock SH3?Maybe you could put them in the warship category or something,but will they work like real subs?

Have a look at Sergs site - link above
The VIIA subs are submerged and will attack the enemy
If you add them as English they will attack anything Axis
The S class subs come in 2 versions - ! submerged which just sails about

Of course you will have to add them in your game in mission ed to appear

Since they have no waypoints/spawnpoints i doubt they would...but i'm asking anyway:)

Yes you can add waypoints for them so they will show up
