View Full Version : SH4 player Submaines - Quality or Quantity??
What would your rather have for SH4.....
A handful of US subs with an obscene level of detail with all compartments and sub systems fully modelled, animated and exporable.
OR
Sacrafice some detail for a wider range of playble subs, including some Japanese or maybe even some british T class / dutch O21 etc.
Which would provide more playbility and longetivity for you?
 Hummmm.... maybe I should have added an "I dont care" option. :shifty:

Those who don't care can just not vote, that's my opinion.
And yes, I'd love to see more boats instead of detailed boats. In my opinion, to use SHIII as an example, I think our choices with fully detailed interiors would be something like the VII and XXI, period, or a wide selection with several subs sharing the same interior.
No, give us many subs. I have this nasty feeling it's either-or, not both-and: Full interiors or many subs.
Come to think of it, I wouldn't mind to have a British or Japanese sub with a simplistic 2D interior (or a US sub interior) and US 3D crewmen. Beats the H*** out of nothing.

Drebbel: If possible, could you change my vote to the second option (fewer subs, no captain in engine compartment)? I voted without thinking:-?.
Yeah - if British and Dutch subs had a generic interior, i wouldnt complain. :D

It's how X-Wing Alliance worked. The Rebel and Imperial fighters all had unique cockpits, but the civilian fighters (such as the R-41, the Planetary Fighter, the Supa Fighter, the Toscan Fighter, etc.) all had the same generic cockpit. It worked nicely enough, especially when the community (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/www.xwaupgrade.com) added unique cockpits to them.
I will be happy as a pigboat in muddy waters just sailing a very highly detailed Gato and Balao. Really, I don't need any other boats.
I agree though, that modelling a few extra boats and using common interfaces should be achievable without any need for compromise on detail.
Still, my vote is for quality over quantity. Give us a game engine built from the keel up with quality and detail in mind, and the modders can add quantity to this great game later.

I seem to be following you around and agreeing with you today :know:
but I am the same, give me a top notch Gato and Balao and I'm fine :arrgh!:

Quantity's easier to add than quality.
After further thought I'd like a British S class please

What can i say... in example, in SH3, i use only type IX, i only use Type VII if i am enforced but i change it as soon as posible, and always refuse the type XXI.
Type II is in my opinion a coastal patrol sub, so i dont start a campaing where i am enforced to use it.
I am a IX lover.... :smug:
Looking my personal choices, i want few subs, but with better quality.
Just a personal opinion.... nothing more.
i like variety so if they could find a balance between the 2 choices i'd be happy, I for some reason just get all giddy inside when I upgrade my sub and its all shiny and new, helps counter mid campaign boredome when im finding no tonnage and convoys have escorts with Depth charges that can home in on my sub a thousand meters awayt :yep:
