Read through this entire thread (http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums/showthread.php?t=82755).

It had a depressing effect on me. Don't forget - no pics of NK's prisoner and extermination camps.

On the political front are they still nit picking over issues of the war still. I would not be surprised if they were.

North Korea is a rotten country that is slowly falling apart and one day something will happen. Korea will never be united as long as the North sits behind a wall and sulks and despises the rest of the world, they wonder why we look at them as a rotten country. That’s because they will not move forward, they only know one word and that word is stagnation. :nope:

It's not depressing, it's our history!

Where do you think we came from? Why do you think you're not living like them?

Pull the fragile carpet of Democracy, economical and political freedom, and we go straight back to our Feudal past. It has only been 300 years but that's enough to forget and take this world for granted, freedom and liberty are so overly abused words almost nobody can explain their true original meaning.

The only difference to the past is the grandeur, the monuments, the large roads to impose on the individuals the feeling of insignificance, to make crowds difficult to gather, preventing formation of groups and thus protests, and to crush them easier. Feudalism is universal, such roads are not a North Korean invention, they first appeared in Czarist St. Petesburg.

The ravaged look isn't accidental either. It's not for your eyes to see indeed because it is not prestigous to the non-fanatical, but the destruction oppresses the people reminding them of their miserable existance and keeping them menial and loyal, as the King is their only chance of salvation, from starvation included. If all was pretty and colorfull people would forget they must Obey, if each person painted their houses and dressed differently from each other, a dangerous individualism would instill a desire for different colors, different styles, different choices, different books, different newspapers, different cars, different politicians, different parties, different elections.

Some of the Chinese "cities" that border NK have a ghetto look to them, as well. NK is pretty typical of a communist system. China is just now starting to get it's rural (i.e. nine-tenths of the country) areas pulled out of the same kind of feudal era.

It'll be strange if NK ever gets overrun. South Korea will have that place turned completely around within a generation. They (the Koreans) are hardcore industrious like that. Getting all those landmines out of the DMZ is going to take one helacious project, though. If if you just poured some 100m long steel roller and rolled it over the mines, it'll get blown to hell.

Very interesting find, Avon.

Ah...militaryphotos.net. I go back a long way with this website. Do you post there AvonLady? I joined up years ago when they let anyone join, but now they only want ex-military. It's full of blow-hards...a lot of ex-spec ops forces who treat non SF people like dirt...I was in a cav regiment....and I had to post one of my army documents otherwise they wouldn't believe me...funny thing is, all that's left there are stupid students (most of them Germans), pretend SF, mod arse-lickers (usually from Canada), air-softers, terrorists (jihadis) and Chinese spies who spread silly photoshopped pictures and the odd Iranian....:yep:

...used to be good. Not anymore

Communism sucks!:yep:

Nope. Communism is great, although it has never been achieved!

Non-benevolent dictatorships that call them selves communist, like North Korea, China etc suck.
