Am on my 41st career mission with my VIIB. I came across a convoy which I sunk a few ships out of and got away clean without the 3 Flower Corvettes and an Armed Trawler bothering me. However, in the convoy was a Passenger Liner, but it was too close to me. Anyway, my question is: In May 43 can I sink a Passenger Liner if I come across one that is within the firing distance?

As long as it wears a flag of a current enemy country, yes. I have sunk a PL on Sept. 3 1939 (the one in harbour at Dover in GW 1.1a). The messages from BdU about not shooting them is just 'color'. As long as a ship is an enemy, you can always sink it.

I am assuming this is what you are asking.....

Thanks Highbury, that's all I wanted to know. It went past so fast because I was in the process of sinking a COastal Merchant so I didn't get a chance to see the flag, but it was also nighttime, like 2 AM.

If it's under armed escort ie in a convoy too right, I wouldn't think twice "sink her"

I had to let it go, because it was too close to fire at it (100 m) and the Flower Corvette was coming toward it and I had other merchants for me to attack and I was at all stop.

:hmm: Well...its just me...but If i,m intercepting an Convoy...I pick the biggest ship I see there...and wait untill I get an clear shot at it and fire 2 Torps at the time just to inflict seriuos damage to it...and the 3th one will be ready for the finishing blow.

Not always true, especially early in the war depending on the mods you use. In GW 1.1a I have many times seen neutral Swedish or Norwegian ships in convoy. I have accidentally sunk them, it does count against you as a neutral kill.

The game simply only recognizes if it is an enemy or not. State (ie. in convoy) means nothing. Same with the "Don't attack the French" or "Don't attack British Warships" messages early on... just atmosphere.. the game sees them as enemy tonnage pure and simple.

Date is 1940 november, big convoy with passenger liner smack bang in the middle,
blacked out and zagging. Trailed her for 4 hours in the dark but couldnt get close due to escorts, fired a couple of torpedos at extreme range hitting the passenger liner in the propellor area slowing her right down. Finished her off with another 4 torpedoes was thinking I was in king of the hill. Unfortunately it was an American Passenger Liner. Arrrgghhhh was not impressed when I saw the Nuetral tonnage I had sunk. :damn: :damn: :damn: :damn: :damn: :damn: :damn:

My rule is No Neutrals. Sink it if it's your enemy (or if it will become one later, like the USA). If the convoy is neutral and attacks you (for some reason, they did that to me, and they were Mexican!) go ahead and blow them out of the water. I've only sunk 2 in my career.

You´re right, but I think Hunter knows that they count as a neutral even when they are travelling in a enemy convoy. I sink neutrals too, if they are part of an enemy convoy. Führer´s orders.;)

I have only one rule if it's big sink it and to hell with it, if it's neutral. :ping:

if a fellow officer in my sub looks at me and says : Are you sure it wasnt neutral..did you look at the flag?

Me: What flag? it was floating right? so I had the fully right to sink it.

What flag?

Exactly how the hell can I see it in the pitch black! and in the day time I'm too busy keeping a eye on Destroyers. ;) :smug: :know:

At night if it's lit up I don't shoot at it, if it's not...well if he's a neutral he should have been lit up.

During the day I check the flags, and don't fire at neutrals at all.

Accidents do happen at night sometimes though, but hey if they're in a convoy and not lit up then it's their problem not mine.

I won't go out my way to kill a Neut...but then again, sometimes people just have to die!

If the tonnage is worth it...they're going down..low hit to the reknown.
