When returning to base after a career misson,do you have to actually dock the sub or just make it past the entrance way to the base to recieve credit for "returning to base"?????

Negative, negative on that...it's 30 KILOMETERS!:rotfl:
But they're right; you don't have to go all the way back to base.
I always do, though; I like the harbor traffic too much.:roll:

As soon as I fulfill my patrol requirements I simply Exit and select Return to Base. Usually, I'm almost out of torpedoes and sometimes I don't have any torpedoes left because I always run into convoys and play haveck, sinking everything in sight. So don't get in my way. :rotfl: or you might accidently get sunk.

i always dock in the base, at the sub pen or outside, where the band us playing :up:
but you can do it befere enter the base, at 30 kilometrs
If i hit ESC anywhere on the map (providing I have fulfilled my mission) an select Dock at xxxx......do I get the credit ?

"Dock at..." = credit
"Return to base" = no credit

Just to be a little more clear, the "Dock at...." must be referring to YOUR base. If you are at Kiel for example with a few of the map mods you may get one or 2 other harbours within the 30KM limit.
But as long as you get "Dock at YOUR BASE" you will get full credit for a round trip patrol.

:D I always dock at the Base, just of the hell of it
one time I messed up by leaving the comp running and went full speed into my last waypoint about 60 meters away from the subpens and it ended with heavy floodings and 29% of my hull left :damn:
yep...smoking an cigarette....its bad for youre health and of others
"Dock at..." = credit
"Return to base" = no credit
I tested this after a couple boring no tonnage patrols and I never got a renown bonus for docking at base

Okay, I'm curious. How do you guys "Dock at Base" after you have finished your required mission?

Get within 30km of your base, you'll notice a short pause in the game as it loads the harbor graphics, hit ESC, choose "Dock at XXXXXX", collect extra reknown for returning to base.

Just return to the dock where you left. You'll find your wife or girlfriend (virtual..not real :roll: ) waiting for you.
It's fun, because I left the port where I had impregnated one of the nurses and when I returned she had a baby...and threw that at my u-boat instead of the flowers....lucky Hans caught the blighter. :arrgh!:

Okay, I've never actually returned to base by having the sub return on the route it took to get to AK99. Oh, btw, AK99 was dead. Nothing there and I have 10 torpedoes left so I decided I would return to base on a course of 135°. So what actually do I have to do when I get within 30 km of St. Nazaire? What do I select when I get within the distance of 30 km of St. Nazaire? I have 3167 km to go yet so I'm likely to run into a convoy on the way back :D , and if I survive that, what do I do when I'm within 30 km of St. Nazaire?

I think the key words were " Hit ESC" and " choose Dock at XXXXX", XXXX being the name of your base. Hit ESC, exit patrol, choose dock at St Nazaire.

So I do that after I've travelled the 3,000 odd km and get within 30 km of St. Nazaire. Correct?

Yes, you will only get the option "Dock at St. Nazaire" if you are within 30km though. If you are too far it will say "Return to base" and you will not get extra Renown.
ESC>Exit Patrol>Dock at St. Nazaire - after you have travelled the 3000km and are within 30km of St. Nazaire.

I'm curious, just how much extra renown do you get doing it that way? Never done it, having always hit ESC and 'Return to Base' as soon as I am out of torpedos. Could be a pain for those long patrols (Sending me from Bergen to a BF square is stupid. That is why we captured France!) but if it is worth my time I'll consider it.

Depends, stock and Grey Wolves is 100. Don't know if TGW or other mods are different. I changed it to make more incentive to return to base.

Right near the top of cfg/basic.cfg
[RENOWN]
RenownReachGridObjCompleted=500
RenownPatrolGridObjCompleted=200
CompletedPatrol=100
Change it to 10000 and have a little shakedown cruise party.

I always dock back at base. I think it adds to the immersion to slowly return to the dock with the band playing and the people welcoming you home. With the Harbor Traffic mod, there's always interesting ships to pass by as well. :yep:
So can we physically dock as well (mean going alongside a pier or into a pen.
Tried slowly but as soon as we hit the side of it (even slowly) we have damage. Would be cool though!

No, you have to stop a few feet away. Even in real life you do that, then throw the lines to the men on the dock to moor your ship.

I have got within 24 km of my base, when I see the option Dock at .... 'my base' I click on that but I do not see the visual of my sub entering the base. How do I do that and be able to dock?

There is no visual of your sub returning to base. If you want to dock at the pier then you have to drive the boat to it, then click esc.
