Hi

I recently reinstalled SH3, when I saw a new patch was out. My last experience was with the 1.2 patch and RUB - then I honestly lost interest.

In my search for the perfect mod my first choice was NYGM Tonnage War. But really I had to give up on it. Even in 1939 the escorts had lasersights and Darth Vader intuition, it almost felt like the SH2 dread. When I just couldn't shake the lowly Flower Corvettes despite using every trick in the book, I caved in.

After a reinstall I tried out TGW 1.1a. So far I like it. I'm pretty rusty, and my during my first patrol I ran into an a really long run of bad luck. When I returned to my Wilhemshaven base, I had only sunk 9,000 tons in shipping.

Imagine my surprise when the career status report said I sunk 0 tons, and my renown only had increased because I patrolled my assigned quadrat. The patrol report said 9,000 tons, but it didn't reflect on my career status.

Surely that's a bug? The two (yes 2! :88)) ships I managed to sink were definitely British, so why was I not credited with the kills?

Oh, and another thing: How long should I wait for ships to go under? In my recent patrol I wasted 5 torpedoes on a cargo ship, that refused to sink despite extreme flooding and massive holes in her hull.

Thanks - and hi!

From the GW1.1a readme:
Known Issues

There is a well-known undocumented feature of Silent Hunter III that may result in no credit being recorded for sunken ships. To avoid this Silent Hunter III behaviour:

1) Do not upgrade or change anything on your U-Boat on your first patrol of a new career before leaving port.

2) On your following patrols do not upgrade your sub at the end of the patrol... wait until you are about to leave for the next one. Remember:

In base at end of patrol=no upgrading;

In base just prior to patrol start=ok go ahead and upgrade it!

Also regarding ships in harbors all running straight towards the nearest ground, beaching, and burning etc.... THIS happens when you save your game within 50 km of a harbor... and is also a stock SH3 bug. (Another tip, you will take an FPS hit in harbor areas because there is a lot for your PC to track and render... USE LOW TC if you must use TC to leave the area.

‘The Grey Wolves’ cannot correct the above issues... but you can change your actions to adapt to them, thereby nullifying them. Stock SH3 Save-game routines are simply screwed up and cannot be fixed otherwise. This is NOT a new bug introduced by ‘The Grey Wolves’.

Well known and well documented stock SH3 bug I'm afraid...and nothing GW, or any other mod, can do about it. :(

Oh, and welcome! ;)

Thank you very much, I actually read through the readme, but forgot about that part. That's it, I upgraded to a new hydrophone system before I left port on my first patrol. It's a relief really since I was worried it might be a more profound bug.

(Oh, another thing: I might be blind, but I can't seem to find the SH3 Weather Mod here?)
