A true classic. Germany hungry for gaining it's 8th access to a world cup final (more than Brazil) while hosting the tournament, and having shown up to be an aggressive top team in this tournament. Argentina being a favourite for this tournament from the first day on, but so far not as strong and convincing as one had to expect. Argentina also playing surprisingly fair, not much yellow cards for them. The match will be held and decided on almost same eye level. Germany has small advantages (morale, very hungry players, audience, and very fast and flexible attacking style as was to be seen against Sweden). Argentina has ambitons, too, has good individual players, and can fight. Could become interesting, but I think the German team spirit will decide it. If Germany wins, I theoretically don't see any other team able to stop them in this tournament, mjam-mjam!. I rate the chances 55:45 for Germany. :) Friday is the day!

Half-time. Quite an intense fighting. Technical advantages for Argentina, physical advantages for Germany. not much space out there, the Germans have so far have not found a recipe against that. On the other hand, Argentina so far has not had a single big chance, while Germany had one or two. this could become a long evening. German team too much pushed into the defense, imo. Both teams play on same eye level, but slight advantages for the Southamericans. Not a nice match to see, but quite intense.

Overtime. Great fighting out there. No beautiful match, but a duel of wills. Klinsmann' changings of players were real impacts. Argentinia was technically better, but the Germans have the stronger determination, compensating by that and coming back into the match when the Argentinias gave them more room. Let's go.

It's over. This event will not find a decision from sports, so they start to throwing coins now: penalty shootout! Both teams are unbeaten in penalty shootouts at world championships. This will change today...

That means germany passed to the semifinals ? :p
Good, that means we will eliminate them (like in 1970 and 1982) and gain access to the final.
I still think that we will have a first time final : Italy vs France.

As narrow that only two razorblades would fit in-between. But if you can survive Argentina, you can survive every team. Everything is possible now, only the sky is the limit.:D :D :D :D :D

Oh, and we remain to be unbeaten in penalty shootouts at world cups ;)

Penalty shootouts are completely random and aren't a mesure of the "greatness" of a team.

And that's what I call an inconsistent referee. But I am sure this one will get to continue refereing at the Cup. Fits Blatter's politics.

I could see only the last 30min and I don't see Maradona crying again, wasn't he in the stadium?:hmm:

no, he left it at the beginning of the match...

But who cares about Maradona??? ;)

The penalty shoot out was the most exciting moment up to now for me.

no, he left it at the beginning of the match... He saw the coming of the inevitable?

I only remember the final match of 1990, because I had watch guard in the German navy at this day and Germany won and Maradona cried in the cameras.

There’s enough evidence around now to be able to work out the best way of taking penalties in a shootout, and the Germans appear to have learnt all the lessons. That was a clinical display of how to do it.

If Germany ever has to play a shootout with another team who have the same level of understanding we could be in for a long evening.

Maradonna, different than Pele, is no official guest of the FIFA, and the police has an eye on him, too, due to his past (and still present) involvement with drugs and crime. He demanded to be let into the stadium along with a friend who had no ticket. His friend was rejected. So he left out in protest. Seeing his arrogance and in my understanding disgusting behavior at various occasions, neither me nor many others were missing him.
