What do you think about the subject?
I'm just thinking, usually subsim's sound environment is a little bit... simple. For SC (Sub Command) someone made couple of mods which added some crew voices and even if there were just few frases, it was a very positive addon for the immersion. After a while you stopped actually listening what they are saying, but anyway you heard them talking "something". I like that mod and I still have it. There is, at hansa.org, some RL recordings made by USN for study purposes. They are interesting to listen. I got no idea how loud was the sound when the sub used it's plains with power for example. That example was recorded through sonobuoy, distance was about 50 yards I think. Really interesting. Makes you thinking... :hmm:

Sounds are essential. It's a submarine game, after all:up:.

Having ambient noises be dependant on the situation would be really awesome. I downloaded that "Live u-boat" thing or whatever it was called, which added a huge deal to atmosphere. However, it was a bit unrealistic to hear casual rustling of paper and coughing during a destroyer attack.

What about "casual" ambience in normal situations and some other sounds for other situations? Heavy breathing, sobbing, etc. for when the boat is under heave depth charge attacks, screaming and panic when the boat's damaged, etc.

Hello S-K!

What "Live Uboat"? Have I missed something essential?
Then, personally, I'm maybe not that keen for sounds of coughing etc. but maybe more I'm thinking just basic frases like OOD telling down to conn to the helmsman "Make my course zero-niner-zero" when it's time to boat to make just a rutine course change based on the planned patrol route or so. Now it's somehow funny to be on the bridge when the boat starts turning just like that, without any given commands.
