Right, I'm in the earlyish stages of putting this short story together for the subsim story contest and I've run into a little plot snag. Without wanting to give too much of the current storyline away, I wish to put forward this possible scenario and a couple of questions:
An Ohio SSBN has deployed from Bangor into the Pacific, both a 688 (Flt I version) and a Victor III are tasked with tracking it. I hope to have the Victor III find and track the Ohio first; now here's the crunch factor. I know that the Ohio class is all silent and all powerful so could a Victor III actually stumble across it, and even if it did, would it be able to hold a track on it for any reasonable length of time, without the Ohio knowing it was there?
If the general consensus on the above questions is no, then what other class of SSBN (and specifically what hull) deployed from Bangor in the early 1980s?
Thanks for your time, I've been searching around the net but can't seem to find anything to help me. :D
