install sh3 without starforce

i have been searching most of the day trying to figure this out. is there a legal way to do this without a patch from ubi? the subject seems taboo so i can't find any real answers. thanks.

...Just to be absolutely clear, there is no supposedly "legal" way (I really do think this depends on where you live and possible interpretation)....but there is a way, and it is easy enough to find if you search using google for instance.

I am dead set against piracy, but really, really hate to hear about people with legally purchased copies being forced to choose either not to install the game or installing it and having SF cause computer problems.

When I purchased SHIII I had no idea what S.F. was nor was I aware of problems people were having with it...I did not even know S.F. was installed by SHIII.

When I first got SHIII I had nothing but problems with S.F., some were resolved by S.F. Tech Support but the problems with my optical drive were not. I finally got to the point where I had to decide between removing SHIII or doing something of questionable legality. Being that I paid my good money for it and I did everything reasonable to resolve the issues I was encountering...well lets just say, I am still playing it.

In this instance, I see absolutely no moral problem with either decision, and solid moral standing trumps bad law in my book.

I think UBI is too blame for this situation more than S.F. at this point, they need to make it so that users are not put in the situation of having to break the law to use their purchased product.

was looking to get a new game this weekend and couldn't find anything i was comfortable getting. i have not spent much money in games lately.

got into il2 until boonty reared its ugly head.
got oblivion which only checks the cd. thanks you bethesda.
got sh3 and never bought starforce again.

got a demo with securom7 and felt like i was...well, just look at your registry and then learn its from sony. i don't know much about the latest securom but from what i read it acts similar to starforce using its own device drivers or something. i could be dead wrong in my interpretation as this stuff confuses me to no end, but i don't like it. not being able to delete entries in my registry bother me, especially when i am clueless to why they exist.

i feel like i need to upgrade to an...an...xbox:damn:

Ubi actually has an official no-cd patch for IL2 FB.

Boonty is easily removed, go to SimHQ.com and there's a really easy step-by-step guide on installing the Pe-2 addon and getting rid of Boonty permanently.

i don't know much about the latest securom but from what i read it acts similar to starforce using its own device drivers or something.
That´s right, Securom installs a driver, Safedisc too. But they are less intrusive than SF.

Frankly, after my earlier experiences with Starforce messing up my PC, and the promise of more such "protection systems" to come, I just stopped playing games on my system. Surprise, surprise, I haven't really missed them at all, and instead have spent more time doing constructive things with my life.

Today, though, I thought I'd check to see if SH3 is now free of Starforce - it is after all now firmly in the budget category (£9.99 in the UK). But no, we still have to load Starforce if we want to play the game.

What's the point? The pirates crack these games anyway, and the only people who suffer are the genuine customers who have problems with their systems. If they want to kill PC games this is the way to do it.

I, too, have been waiting to see if a "gold" edition of SH3 would be released without SF.

This is kind of off-topic...but does anyone know if the demo of a game called City Life used SF? I heard it does.

The reason I asked is that I installed that demo before I found out that it might have SF. Later I had to copy some data to DVD--and had no problem doing so.

If the City Life demo has SF, then apparently it did not cause problems with my DVD drive and I night be able to safely buy SH3, Starforce or not.

This is pretty pathetic, agonizing about SF and whether or not one can purchase and install SH3 without problems. But I just want to avoid having computer problems wherever possible.

Because of browser problems yesterday I spent a couple hours talking to tech support people, and then about 4 hours trying different things to get my internet access back. I wound up having to copy whatever data I could to DVD and then reinstall Windows.

Total time spent: about 7 hours.

Computer problems eat up LOTS of time. :D

Which is why I am so determined to avoid them.

I have heard others mention that the version available from an online downloading site doesn't come with StarForce. That may or may not be true..I don't know for certain.

Plus I don't know how badly you hate SF and how much you really want to play SH3 but this could be an option for you to explore.
