No matter how SHIV turns out we will be disappointed. Such is the nature of simulation enthusiast. Every person can mention 10 things they find flawed with SH3, in spite of them playing the game for 100+ hours.
So the night mare scenario: The thing you fear most they will screw up in SHIV:
Mine is that they will completely ignore both plotting of contacts and manual targetting and leave it as it is in the game, in spite of that it could be much improved.
Generally, I fear they focus on sexying up the game rather than fixing the many things not done properly in the first time.

My #1 fear, I guess, is that Ubisoft will rush it and refuse to release more than three patches. It's never happened before, but I just have this funny feeling:roll:...

There should be another realism option for those things. On the very hardest, you had to do everything yourself using tables, tools, and the TDC screen (F6), like in that tutorial I linked to.
Generally, I fear they focus on sexying up the game rather than fixing the many things not done properly in the first time. I second that. Graphics don't really need to be better than in Silent Hunter III.
My biggest fear (game being rushed doesn't count as a feature now, does it): No dynamic radio communication or objectives. In other words, you're limited to sending patrol and contact reports, and your orders never change in mid-patrol. You can't request escorts, new orders, or re-supplying, nor can you send an SOS (in the event of abandoning ship, which I believe was going to be in Silent Hunter III as there's an "Abandon ship" sound file in the Speech folder).
That, and the monotone missions. No rescues, landing or retrieving commandos, taking photos, destroying specific targets, etc. Just "reach zone and patrol it for 24 hours".

My Biggest Fear: Is that they will put in everything everybody wants
but then will charge $500.00 for the game!! Nothing is cheap anymore
guys and gals.....not even clean water and air

That being said, though, I wouldn't mind it being improved. More terrain features, underwater foliage.
But I'm not sure if my computer would be able to handle it (it can barely handle Silent Hunter III with its 512 MBs of RAM), and it's not necessary anyway as graphics are immersive as they are.
It'd need to be a graphics option if implemented anyway. So... As long as the game's stable and good game-play-wise, use all the time you need on eye-candy. Otherwise, it's a low priority.
My number one fear is that they will get tired of eveyrone complaining that SHIII isnt realistic enough and make it so realistic that people like me who play for fun and dont want to spend 30 mins calculating a firing solution wont want to play:oops:

I think those kind of people got what they wanted in SH3 :) SH3 was a real parade game. Just purdy up the tart and make her pucker her lips so she passes inspection, get good reviews etc. Then to hell with the underlying simulation, as long as it puts up a good act for about 14 days.
Besides taking a solution doesn't last 30 mins in SH3, it perhaps lasts 3 minutes unless you use MCI, then you need maybe 1 minute. ITs just CUMBERSOME solely because the SH3 team didn't build the game for it properly. If they had thought a little about the design, they would have gotten it much better.
They left many things open for modding. So let us just assume they deliver SHIV in equally poor condition, we could fear that they still wouldn't give us a SDK so we could PROPERLY fix the game once and for all.
Besides just sinking ships gets boring. Its like playing an EA games were you get rewards for breathing air, basically, and unlockables for blinking. Gamers are afraid of challenges nowadays....

yea but its easy for people who majored in math and spent 3 months studying how to get an accurate firing solution, me I'm surprised that I can multiply 6x6, and to be honost I play the game to have fun and to watch stuff blow to hades, not to sit down and spend whatever you spend calculating what the hades your shooting at, what speed of the thing your shooting at and so on.... 40% realist ftw =)
scalability is the answer to that Rilder  if the hardcore crowd want to do the whole solution thing then fine and if you want to just point it in the direction and launch a torp and get a satisfying BOOM then you should be able to as well... no rights or wrongs just good times for all :yep:
