newb needs help with radio messages (tutorial)

Hi there - sorry for getting to the party so late (and not bringing anything), but I have just picked up SH3 from "Game" in the UK and am working through the tutorials. I have read (most of) the manual, but I don't seem to be able to figure out how to read/listen to the radio messages I receive. I see the radio operator telling me we have received a new message, but cannot see its contents. I have tried to get the RA to tell me the last message, but he then denies that we have one (or somesuch).

I have seen one message appear on my screen about completing the first mission once I surface (I managed to do the things the objectives screen told me to do without problem), which I did, but I was still unable to complete the whole tutorial. The tutorial states that I must complete the instructions in the radio messages....

Can anyone help me please?

Hey thanks mooncatt - have just finished all the tutorials where I did well (excellent on all), but kinda cheated on the last one - missed all but one ship with my torpedoes and used my desk gun on the rest.

One thing that struck me as odd was that one of the two destroyers (were they? :-? ) was firing on the other ships after I started attacking. I dived after my initial attack and it hit at least two of the other ships with it's guns, and kept firing. I guess that's a well-known bug?

Am enjoying this game - haven't played a sum sim since the DOS days!

Yeah. I remember that escort attacking, and sinking the other escort! Made the tutorial a little easier. I even psoted here about it. I think it was the armed trawler which doesn't have any DC's. Enjoy the game. I do!

yeah i remember that too, was it something to do with "defend the bismark"??
