View Full Version : this game is harder than we think
Isn't it funny just when you think you got the correct gyro angle and the correct distance- those damn destroyers will do a dance on the ocean and make those torpedoes fly right on by- the worst feeling in the world for me because I know I have to crash dive real quick. this game has very smart AI- the best I have seen so far...

Yep, the IA are sneaky bastards in this game
you got a Nice Destroyer passing in front of you're nose...he didnt detect you yet.
you fire a Torpedo.......the Destroyer action pictures an scene off ''AH! there you Are!'' Missed me:smug:
Also the AI I hate the most are Planes.....:x they just piss me Off....I almost got myself killed last night because I though an Search Plane of USA does not carry any bombs.....:shifty: And I noticed that my Crew was afraid of the little waves so they didnt mount the AA guns of my Sub....So I made an 90º to the left Full power and an Crash Dive...so my Hull went from 100% to 86% and also some equipment got an big hit.
but what I would like to see in the game is something in you're commander room. you noticed that the boat only moves a little to the right and left when DC's hit you from the sides.
I would like to see the effects as in Das Boot...when DC's explodes near your ship from close range that the Commander room Shakes heavy and your Crew and Officers fall or try to grab hold on something. that would be nice to see.

You can have a friend hiding behind your monitor. When the DC hits you he can shake the monitor desperatly and even pull the plug to simulate , all lights gone off. :D
He can also have a sprey can of salt water to sprey your face to simulate a broken pipe. And then put a barrel of water infront of your feet so u can dip your toes in it for more realism if u have flooding :D
Your wife (if u have one) can stand behind u whit a full bucket of water and toss it over you to simulate rough weather on the bridge. I guess she would love to throw a bucket of water over you :)
The possibilities are endless if u hide a friend behind your monitor :know:
Little joking :).
But i do agree. That shaking thing cant be that hard to implant. Ive seen it in many other games before, But harder part is to implant falling crewmen.

:rotfl: hahahaha nice
Well indeed, at least the heavy shaking part is nice to have...and louder explosions just like in Das Boot...and maybe some cursing sounds in german :smug: SCHEISSE!! DIE VERDAMMTE ENGLISHEN!!!

It get's worse later on never mind the DD's add the RAF and the USAF into the equation especially when your in the middle of a convoy.

The game could have been even worse I think. Actually, I just tabbed out of the game sinking a Fiji class cruiser in the South Atlantic, launched 3 fish from about 3000 metres away, 1 detonated prematurely but the other two did the job. But it made me think, as apparently in WWII didn't capital ships often run a zig-zag course in unfriendly territory? I think this is one reason why the USS Indiannopolis(?) was sunk by a Japanese submarine later in the war, it was night time and the captain thought that a zig zag was unnecessary. Imagine if capital ships in this game zig-zagged, that would frustrate some of us to no end.

yeah they do zig zag as soon as they detect you, i think that if the zig zagged all the time it would be sooo difficult to attack anything

Which is what I should have typed. Apparently that captain got a little tired of zig-zagging half across the Pacific, with tragic consequences.

I'm pretty sure they were zig-zagging. They didn't change course every five minutes; the legs were longer than that. The Japanese sub just happened to get lucky.
US sub commanders described having a ship or convoy accidentally escape by zigging at just the right moment, and others mentioned having ships they thought would escape suddenly turn right toward them.
When real ships thought a sub was near they didn't weave back and forth like in the game; they turned their tail to the sub and ran.

It wouldn't make a difference to me they still would get sunk,.
What I generally try to do is if a ship zig-zags aim a fish right at her bows and fire she will zig zag for ever and end but she will return to her original position your chances of hitting her are improved dramatically.

I watched a documentery on the USS Indianapolis. Yes, I know not to believe everything I see, but some of the actuall sailors said the Indy stopped Zig-Zagging. I believe there was metion of weather adding to the reason for the decision. Fog, if my memory serves correct.
Either way, I think a convoy should zig zag every 15 minutes or so. Just adds a bit to the game. But thank you for all the modders who have made this game amazing as is. GW FTW
