Contacts through landmass

Hi folks, Recently installed GW mod and started playing again, great fun, thanks to all you modders out there. Quick question though and this may apply to stock sh3 but how come I get contact info from the other side of land mass? I saw this while trying the Scapa Flow mission if that makes any difference.

Is a standard feature of SHIII, has nothing to do with the GW mod.

Ok, Ok, very funny. Is this a hard coded aspect to stock SH3 then?. I assume so if GW hasn't changed it
