So I just started my 2nd career with the GW mod this evening. (First ended in tears after underestimating the DD behavior hehe). For the first time ever I decided to start off in a VIIB, I have always been a Type II lover because I love to harbour hunt.. so anyways...
I start off in Wilhemshaven at 0300 Sept 1. Nice time to start out as it gives me a good jump on getting past Dover while England is still neutral. Well old habits die hard. As I was going past Dover early on the 2nd I couldn't resist having a peek (GW is so nice in the ships it puts in harbour). The scene that greeted me is shown here:

That pic was taken at 1700 Sept 2nd.. so still neutral. I was able to position myself relatively close to what you see there while remaining on the surface.
I set 2 torps for impact on the Troop, and 2 for magnetic on the PL due to angle. Likewise I set my aft torp for magnetic to target the J (was blocking a good shot I would want at the Dido later :) Then I wait till midnight.
First I launch the Tube 5 at the J, then unload on the Troop and PL respectively. Lucky shot on the J, instant kill with multiple explosions. All 4 of the others found the mark. Troop was listing heavily and the PL became stern grounded. At this time my lack of patience with the new damage system started to show, I gave each ship one more. one set to impact on about a 45 degree angle, but right on the port bow of the PL.. boom! Chain explosions and instant kill message. The finisher on the Troop did not give an instant kill but it rolled onto it's side in about 5 more mins of RT.
At this time the DDs, AT, and PTs were swarming all over the outside of the enclosure (as I was hoping). One did get in, pass over my by wedged itself into the docks and became a non issue other then firing at my scope. (was now daylight, had to wait for night again.
Position now moved abit and night has fallen again, I launch 2 each at the Dido and Fiji. Dido after a time settles stern down with kill credit, Fiji took one more before rolling over.
Afterwards I proceeded to my Patrol Area at BE61, encountered a Medium Tanker. He took 2, then I was off home.
Total tally for the patrol taken from SH3 Commander (I was going to take an 'after' screenshot of all the little broken red ships on the map but I find sometimes with GW they do not always appear and only had 2 of 5 showing.),
03 Sep 1939
HMS Quail (J Class Destroyer), 1690 tons
S.S. Bemis Heights (Passenger Liner), 15140 tons
Angelina (Troop Transport), 10429 tons
HMS Euryalis (Dido Light Cruiser), 5600 tons
HMS Nigeria (Fiji Light Cruiser), 10725 tons
08 Sep 1939
S.S. Monarch of the Seas (Medium Tanker), 7034 tons
Total Tonnage: 50618
My crew was enjoying the comforts of home by the 12th :)
Now I admit that there was a bit of cheating involved. I knew the exact minute that England would become my enemy. I knew the DDs would not be able to effectively come into that enclosure to get me. So maybe not cheating but exploiting known game behavior. So yes it feels a little tainted but it was a hell of alot of fun!!
