Hey guys, Looking for some feedback on this sim. It looks appealing, demo was fun, and I like the idea. Im just wondering if it gets a little...I dont know, boring after a while?
Any feedback or opinions would be appreciated to help me with my decision....
Regards,
EnigMa.

I'm also interested but holding my wallet.
I need to be convinced too.

I don't have it, but it does look very appealing. It looks as though you have the ability to import an infinite number of different types of ships to sail with. And the people who work on it appear to be dedicated and have done marvelous work.
I'd also like to know more myself.:hmm:
This looks pretty cool. I'm an avid Laser sailor during summer months; now maybe I can sail off-season too !

I have the second release of it and love it. Represented my country at sailing for many years but since moving haven't been able to get out on the water since arriving.
It kinda seems that the controls in the demo at least are a bit awkward. I mean, I flooded my ballast tanks in a Ranger yacht (motor-yachts have ballast tanks?) and I sank to the bottom like a sub....
I purchased the game. Im bored, so I figured $25,....why not.
First thing I noticed is the incredible small fleet of boats you get to start with. Sure, theres tons of add ons, but I expect more in the game. then, next thing I did was update to the newest patch. this in turn asked me for a code I dont have, so now I have emailed to tech support, and have to wait for them to send me the code. So i just purchased it, and I cant ehen #$%^#% play it. :damn:
Not a good start.

I have this sim its good but if your expecting SH3 or DW material forget it honestly, some of the ships lack detail but there are alot of ships that have alot of detail, for example jahre ciking and ever renown are two excellent ships.
It is a good sim for practicing monovering and what not its not 100% accurate but you can tow ships and what not.

Don't worry it's not a good game either. If you'd have asked nice I would have even emailed you my copy. It lasted exactly one evening on my computer.

Holy crap. How far down did you have to go in order to find this thing? Some names in this thread are a blast from the past.
Anyone else remember how Kaptain used to go sink, crash, or blow up whatever he was flying, driving or sailing? He used to document it in detail as well. Good times.
Wow...I've seen some thread necromancy, but that's approaching epic levels.
Aye, I remember Kapitans journeys that nearly always ended in a catastrophic disaster. In particular the attempt to get the worlds biggest supertanker (at the time) through the English Channel.
I wonder how he's doing these days, haven't seen anything from him in a while.

Ah, good to see he's still around. I wonder if he's been run over by a carrier in SHIII yet...

I'm guessing this meme must be a Skyrim reference? I keep seeing it all over the place and since that's the latest big thing...
Been debating whether to buy it after seeing a lot of great reviews, but then I've read some negative reviews about the PC version which is what I would be getting. And it's not the kind of game I usually play, but then neither were subsims until I caught that particular bug. Plus it's still kinda pricey for something I might not actually play very much.

It used to be a Skyrim meme, but then it took an arrow to the knee.
And it's pretty good...well, okay, it's very good. One of the best games to come out this year, in fact.

I'm going full fanboy and say that once complete (final patches, DLCs and whatnot), Skyrim will be the greatest RPG of all time. Not only does it look pretty, but the gameplay is astonishingly brilliant.

See, that's what I'm hearing... that it's awesome. I have no experience with the series so wouldn't even know what to expect, but from what I've heard it doesn't matter if you played the previous titles or not.
But are you playing the PC version, or the console version? Cuz I've heard that makes a difference, some PC gamer reviews are saying they did not do enough to make the PC version "PC friendly" and that it makes getting through menus and stuff like that a real PITA.
Of course I will probably wait anyway until the aforementioned patches and stuff have been released and the price has gone down a bit.
And then by that time it will no longer be the current "big thing" and nobody will be talking about it any more and I won't be tempted to buy it, thus saving myself even more money. :haha:
Also I understand the whole point is to kill dragons which I'm not too keen on. :shifty:

I'm playing on PC, and I really don't find the menus clunky. Also, it is optimized very well and it runs smoothly. I always thought that the PC versions were the strongest for any Bethesday game.
No, you don't need to know a thing about the series or have played any of the previous games to enjoy it. The game is a total sandbox, so you are the one who makes the story. And not all of the dragons are evil. In fact, there is a shout that calls a good dragon to fight alongside you.

You and my other half should form a protest group. :03:

That's not a spoiler. Bethesda was saying so before the game was even out. :-?

Well, that's good to know. Just in case. OTOH I've already got one "quest" type game sitting here that I've never even played.
In fact, there is a shout that calls a good dragon to fight alongside you.
But can I love him and hug him and call him "George"? :O:

You'll find that Skyrim is something you can play for years as the modding
community is huge for TES games. Bethesda is releasing the modding tools in
January AFAIK. :yeah:

I have not played Skyrim yet but if it even close to its predecessor Oblivion then word "sandbox" is perfect description. I still have not completed even main quest in Oblivion.
Magnificent... 2006 Virtual Sailor thread come 2011 Skyrim thread.

It's even bigger than Oblivion. With my first character, I spent 30+ hours in
and around the first larger city you find. :DL

Well I looked at it again and I have to say the most off-putting thing is the Steam/DRM issue. Definitely not paying the current price for it with that sort of requirement in place. Me no likey. :nope:
What I should do is FINISH MODDING SH3 so I can actually play that, lol. And then take a look at SH4 and all the other stuff I either haven't installed or have never played for one single solitary minute.
In a related note, I think I may be getting SH5 for Christmas. I believe the going price on Amazon was $3.78 when I added it to my wish list and my family does so love to splurge on me* at the holidays. :haha:
* @Dowly: this does not mean what you think it means. :O:

you can but it's very involved.....I wont buy another product from Ilan (the creator of VS/VSF) but thats more of a personal thing then anything else....

The Wikipedia site for this game gives that information so I wouldn't consider that a spoiler at all.
