My, I wonder if they'll be going after suspected Jewish foreigners or Christian arabs?

Ahh so they are going after Witches now. I guess we can call this progress at a minimum the Muslim world is only 300 years behind the rest of us.
I have a suddon urge to watch Firefly now.
Patron: This is a holy cleansing. You cannot think to thwart God's will.

Mal: Y'all see the man hanging out of the spaceship with the really big gun? I'm not saying you weren't easy to find. It was kinda out of our way, and he didn't want to come in the first place. Man's lookin' to kill some folk. So really it's his will y'all should worry about thwarting. (To Simon) Gotta say, Doctor — your talent for alienatin' folks is near miraculous.
Simon: Yes, I'm very proud.
Mal: Cut her down!
Patron: The girl is a witch.

Mal: Yeah, but she's our witch. <cocks gun> So cut her the hell down.
Ya see Mal knows how to deal with the more "primitive" people of the 'verse and there "backwards beliefs", just have a spaceship with a trigger happy mercenary hover over them while you point a large shotgun in their face. I think we can all learn a thing or two from good old Mal, and thus ends todays lesson in Western/Muslim relations. ;)

RIYADH (Reuters) - Saudi Arabia's powerful morality police is launching a witch hunt in the birthplace of Islam.
The Authority for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice is setting up special centers in all cities to "register complaints on sorcerers and charlatans, track them and terminate them," the authority's chief Sheikh Ibrahim bin Abdallah al-Ghaith told al-Madinah newspaper.
Islam forbids magic and practicing it is considered blasphemy.
Saudi newspapers often report incidents involving so-called sorcerers, mainly from the Indian subcontinent and Africa.
Some Saudis pay them vast amounts of money, hoping to uncover hidden treasures or get jobs, according to the papers.
The religious police have wide powers in Saudi Arabia, which imposes a strict version of Sunni Islam, to prevent the spread of drugs, alcohol and prostitution as well as stop unrelated men and women mixing in public.

I like the line: "The Authority for Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice".
Sounds like a kind of Islamic subsim moderator.

I like this mix of 18th century concepts with 21st century language, t'is very striking:

I don't know what's more fascinating. The termination of sorcerers, or the fact some Saudis pay them large sums of money in the hopes of finding a hidden treasure, or a job.
Seems like Saudi Arabia could use more jobs, and more treasures too, outside the Prince's garage.
Primitives. :dead:
Thanks for the laugh Skybird, I had a rotten day.

for a unique view of saudi arabia by one of its citizens, be sure to check out the archive as it contains some very funny observations and criticisms... don't forget to observe the 'Muslim Offence Level' meter, very sharp indeed
I have to say it says a great deal about saudi and some of the ideals practiced there. Appart from being an interesting insight into a foreign culture the guy who owns the blog has a very pointy sense of humour and is not afraid to make his point clear, under any circumstances.
Unfortunately the blog is no longer being continued, but the last year or so of news and comments made it well worth a bookmark in my browser.
This bit tickled my funnybone (concerning cartoons and muslim protest in the UK):

....of making you talk.
A long-time friend of this blog, fellow shawarma addict and regular Boston to Bahrain commuter, the author of the "Cerebral Waste" blog, has managed to pin me down and get me to answer some questions, in this interview (http://cerebralwaste.blogspot.com/2006/02/cw-interviews-religious-policeman-i.html).
It was actually a post on this blog (http://cerebralwaste.blogspot.com/2006/01/more-terror-level-warnings-announced.html)that was my inspiration for the "Muslim Offense Level". There was a particular entry for the British that went like this:
The British are feeling the pinch in relation to recent bombings and have raised their security level from "Miffed" to "Peeved." Soon, though, security levels may be raised yet again to "Irritated" or even "A Bit Cross." Londoners have not been "A Bit Cross" since the blitz in 1940, when tea supplies all but ran out. Terrorists have been re-categorized from "Tiresome" to a "Bloody Nuisance." The last time the British issued a"Bloody Nuisance" warning level was during the great fire of 1666.
The entries for other Europeans are rather less flattering!

Agree, I had some laughs over the months at that site, but haven't visited it since a longer while now. Hope that he closed it does not mean he is in trouble.
