I am in January 1940. After complete reinstall of SH III , & mods to include Improved Convoys & Additional Merchants. When you look at the map you see no convoys on it & at the end of patrol 6 only see 3 or 4 convoys during an average patrol. Is this just becuse of the the date in the war ie:convoys not yet moving or have I got something screwed up in where the game is not producing convoys? Can someone help me?

You have to find them. You wont get a convoy report unless you happen to be in the general area it's in. Start frequenting what you think might be active shipping lanes.

I beg to differ there's ton's of them. and when you run out of fish it's hard to avoid them.

:ahoy: This could just be my imagination but besides the running out of torpedoes "trick" mentioned above I have found 2 other convoy generating tips. One is to turn on the gramophone...that'll usually produce a single siting if not a full convoy. More so if the tune is one you really like. The second is to plot in a course for some really distant point...say Murmansk. Go to slowest speed and sit back and relax. Seems the sim's AI gets upset by this for some reason and, for me at least, usually pops up convoy after convoy seemingly trying to get you to alter your course away from what you have just laid in with way points.
I did this just today. I decided I was going up to take a look around for icebergs (my SH3 Gen had them plotted all over the Northern seas)and found myself in the middle of a convoy before the lookouts even spotted the darn thing...only med fog. After the attack I was almost run down with no less than 3 more in a radius of less than 100 Km. my machine went to a crawl even at 1:64 speed TC. Needless to say I was out of torps long before I even got off to a good start for the ice fields.:yep:

I did that last night tc'd to intercept a convoy by the time I exited tc I was almost dead centre of the Convoy with a Dido about 2800m in front of a 4 tankers to the rear of me and 4 escorts coming for me from all directions, what a screw up.

You need to edit one of your config files. I think it's the "basic.cfg" file. Turn "range to targets of opportunity" from "300" to "10000". Crank up the important contacts as well.
You will be able to connect the dots after that.

It's in Contacts.cfg.

Last game I did I had allkinds of convoys in the Atlantic & had done nothing to any files. Now I only have 1 or 2 if I am lucky. Doesn't 1940 have many convoys in that war. Also what is TCD?
TDC is the Torpedo Data Computer used to input target and torpedo info which combines to calculate the gyro angle of each shot. You can do this manually or have the WO do calculate it for you.
only see 3 or 4 convoys during an average patrol

I think I'm confused. Are you really saying that you see between 2-4 convoys per one patrol?
How many do you need? Exactly how many torpedoes do you carry?
If I see one convoy during a patrol I'm happy. I wouldn't be able to attack more than two, anyway.
