Problem 1 - I was promoted using the stock SH3 some time ago to Kapitänleutnant but SH3 Commander keeps rolling my rank back to Oberleutnant z. S. When do I get SH3 Commander to give me that promotion back. It is presently Dec 1942 and I have had 35 patrols. What is the rank promotion based on???
Problem 2 - I tweeked my VIIB to use only G7a torpedoes for all years, but I find that on this new patrol I have G7e as well, what happened, and can I tweek it again while on patrol??

Hi Robert, reckon no else is gonna answer so I'll give it a shot.

Problem 1: Open Basic.cfg with notepad. Copy this section:
[PLAYER_RENOWN]
AcademyBonus=1000
RankLevel0=0; SCORE
RankLevel1=1499; SCORE
RankLevel2=9000; SCORE
RankLevel3=15000; SCORE
MedalSettings0=0.25
MedalSettings1=0.5
MedalSettings2=1
MedalScore0=3000;2 class, SCORE
MedalScore1=7000;1 class, SCORE
MedalScore2=15000; knight, SCORE
MedalScore3=25000; oak leaves, SCORE
MedalScore4=37000;swords, SCORE
MedalScore5=50000;diamonds, SCORE
MedalScore6=70000;all, SCORE

Now open a new window to C\Program files\SH3 Commander\Cfg\Basic changes. Open this file with notepad.

Paste there. The Ranklevel0-3= is the reknown needed for each rank. Fiddle with these values to get your rank.

Click File and then save. Don't close notepad yet.

Problem 2:Copy and Paste your subs section from Basic.cfg to the same notepad window as above. Set your torp preferences in the file. Click File then save. Exit notepad. Close all windows.

Now whenever you launch SH3 through Commander it will overwrite basic.cfg to use your preferences.

Forgot to answer the second part of each of your questions.

1a: Rank is based on reknown. When you buy something keep this in mind for if you drop below the required reknown for that rank you will be demoted.

2a: no you can't tweak that in mid patrol. Only graphics and sound files should be tweaked mid-patrol.

You have done some adjustements within the ranks? That's the only way you got these problems. I assume you have touched game files but not Cmdr files.

Okay Robert, went digging into Commanders files a bit more. Here is where your problem is: SH3 Commander\Cfg\Menu static

[de_menu.txt]
13=Geladen via SH3 Commander. Gute Jagd!
160=Matrosengefreiter
161=Matrosenobergefreiter
162=Matrosenhauptgefreiter
163=Bootsmann
164=Stabsbootsmann
165=Stabsoberbootsmann
166=Oberfähnrich z. S.
167=Leutnant z. S.
168=Oberleutnant z. S.
169=Oberleutnant z. S.
170=Leutnant z. S.; Oberleutnant z. S.
171=Oberleutnant z. S.; Kapitänleutnant
172=Kapitänleutnant; Korvettenkapitän
173=Korvettenkapitän; Fregattenkapitän
174=;Kapitän z. S.

Change to 171=Kapitänleutnant; Oberleutnant z. S.

Thank you JScones for leaving documentation in your files so we can see what was changed.

Thank you zz. I'll give it a try and see if that corrects my problem.
Thanks to everyone who has given me help and good recommendations. It is greatly appreciated

Hi Robert, reckon no else is gonna answer so I'll give it a shot.

Problem 1: Open Basic.cfg with notepad. Copy this section:
I found SH3 Commander under Program Files, but under cfg folder I only found the cfg file "Basic Changes" so that is where I put the following information
[PLAYER_RENOWN]
AcademyBonus=1000
RankLevel0=0; SCORE
RankLevel1=1499; SCORE
RankLevel2=9000; SCORE
RankLevel3=15000; SCORE
MedalSettings0=0.25
MedalSettings1=0.5
MedalSettings2=1
MedalScore0=3000;2 class, SCORE
MedalScore1=7000;1 class, SCORE6000 in SH3
MedalScore2=15000; knight, SCORE10000 in SH3
MedalScore3=25000; oak leaves, SCORE15000 in SH3
MedalScore4=37000;swords, SCORE20000 in SH3
MedalScore5=50000;diamonds, SCORE25000 in SH3
MedalScore6=70000;all, SCORE30000 in SH3
The following I do not understand.

Now whenever you launch SH3 through Commander it will overwrite basic.cfg to use your preferences.

zz

So I do not understand "Now open a new window" to the end of your recommendations.
Oh, I already have the Knight Cross and the Knight Cross with golden oak leaves, swords and diamonds in my medals box in the office. There are three medals in there and I forget exactly what they were. Also I check the Basic file in SH3 and I mentioned what the values were in red above. So what should I do?

This will teach me to be 100% precise in my answers. :rotfl:

It never dawned on me that you would copy/paste from my post. My instructions were based on you opening the SH3 folder and going to Data\cfg\basic and doing your own copying/pasteing into Commander. So I figured the easiest method would be to open a second window to copy/paste into. LOL

Hell next time I won't post the section so then you'll have to do it the hard way. :lol:

You still have to put your subs info in that way as I wasn't gonna go looking for that.

My later post I think has the right answer for your rank problem though.

EDIT: I just scrolled up to go back to the forum and noticed you edited the medals requirements to what SH3 wanted. I honestly have never cared about my rank or whatever medals I could get. the pleasure for me was in perfecting the day to day mechanics of surviving in the SH3 world.

My sub information is all screwed up. The Tweek didn't work, so I'll have to try again after the patrol is over. Again, thanks very much for your help. I hope it fixes my rank problem.

Umm, is this sarcasm? :hmm:

You may be embarrassed to realise that SH3 and SH3Cmdr use THE SAME RANK LABELS. SH3 actually took mine and implemented in v1.3(?). Please, compare them.

You'll see below what the actual cause of his problem is, which he has been told many times over the last month, and which is NOT related to SH3Cmdr...

OK, I have now calmed down after reading your question... a bit... Robert, I have explained this to you no less than five times over the last five weeks. A few others have as well. Remember the emails and PMs???

Please tell me, what do you NOT understand about my response? Here is the forum version AGAIN which is not as detailed as the email version I sent you... http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=93290&page=2

Poated earlier:1a: Rank is based on reknown. When you buy something keep this in mind for if you drop below the required reknown for that rank you will be demoted.

This seems like a terrible design in the game:down: .

BDU: "Lets see, you're a well known captain and you've sank lots of ships, but since you want to upgrade your sub im afraid were going to have to demote you."

You: "WTF"

JScones
06-05-06, 04:52 AM
Yeah. It's perplexing why they designed it that way, although my guess is that it was oversight by the devs.

Really, once you earn the renown, you should be able to spend as much as you like, how you like, when you like.

What I find totaly stupid is that you would never "BUY" any bit of equipment you would need to go to war with, ever. In all my years serving I only had to go to the Q store and say "I want a Rifle" or "Sign me out a Truck" or heaven forbid "I'll have 4 liners of 50Cal thx!" Or I'd take my bus ( thats my tank ) to the fitters an say "I need a new engine pack, old 1's shat its self" or "Change the Gun ring over, that 1's wonky". Now you notice something, I got everything for FREE!!! (Ok its still belong's to the Army but you get the idea, I dont pay for it ).

The only thing Renown should have been used for was you (the player) getting gongs and promo's and the same deal for your crew. Thats IT! All upgrades/sub hardware should be free of charge care of ol Donitz. So to that end I may every damn bit of equipment cost me a big fat Zero. I sign for bit's, I dont pay for it.

JScones
06-05-06, 05:52 AM

:hmm: Hmmm. I wonder whether a mod which a) removes all renown costs from all equipment upgrades AND b) randomises the availability of equipment to compensate for the resulting "easy" availability, would be a way to improve this big flaw in the game, plus providing a closer link to reality?

For example, it's 1944. You've removed all renown costs from all available equipment. Leaving it at this means a potential to create a quick and easy Uberboat, which, well, may appeal to some, but not to me.

So, offset this with the simulated effects of sabotage/factory bombings/train bombings and so on (the cause is irrelevant) so that certain equipment is not available at any given time.

"Damn. the shipment of Snorkels bound for St Nazaire were all lost in a train bombing."

Certainly more reflective of reality than the renown test. And certainly possible within SH3Cmdr.

What do people think?

I think this sounds great. As equipt becomes available you click on it and get a message about "temporarily unavailable" and a reason(multiple creative reasons randomly chosen).

Or going one better you pull into base after completing a mission with X amount of equipt. When you leave for your next patrol Commander randomly removes a piece(schnorkel, latest radar, RWR etc.)and reinstalls an older near obsolete model( or nothing at all) reason: Device removed for repairs-due to parts unavailability/lost in transit/damaged during repair, etc. boat is returned to service less the component in question. This way, the boat you brought back may be a bit different than the boat you take out.
Anyway, This is just another subtle idea to screw up your day.

:arrgh!: Kinda reminds me of a situation where one of our Youth Groups had with the "Case of the Missing Juice." I don't want to cause problems, but in the same sense I do have questions periodically. :hmm: As I have said before in the previous post. I do have problems understanding some things.

If you take all the juice, replace it, as our youth group gets thirsty. It is indeed too bad that the Dev used this type of rating system, but I guess it has to be absorbed :()1: and to please everyone, I will not ask another question that is in anyway related to Commander. Yes, I could do as requested :hmm:
Thanks to everyone who has given me help and good and sensible recommendations. It is greatly appreciated!

This is not to be interpreted as sarcasam, as it is in NO WAY meant to be that. So I think that this should be the last post regarding the situation.
