View Full Version : The war has ended? I don't think so...
First of all, I did google this problem and found some topics but they werent really helpfull so I thought maybe someone here can help.
After patching to the newest version of SH3 I have this really annoying bug.
Somewhere after my first patrol the war ends :shifty:
It usually happens when I finish my first patrol and save somewhere in my second patrol. I come back to load my 2 patrol and I find that there are no saves from patrol 2 only there is a new one from patrol 1 named "The war has ended".
Really frustrating...
Does anybody know how to fix this?
Somewhere after my first patrol the war endsThat must be one heck of a bad patrol.
But no, sorry. I don't know how to fix it.

"Bernard? The engines on this thing, suck!"

(from a Jeff Foxworthy bit; the one where he explains: "If you're gonna be the designated driver... have fun with it. Stop every couple fo miles, and keep asking for gas money; just act like you're filling it up. Drunks'll pay for anything... "Bill.... the mileage on this thing, sucks!")

There was a post on this some time ago on here as I recall if you go to your sh3 folder (the one in your docs) and take a look in one of the .cfg files can't remember which one it is and have a look for a line looking something like this:-
end of war=true change it to
end of war=false
something like that but am not 100% sure.

Careers.cfg. Last career entry. The settings are 'Finished' and 'WarOver'. Both should be false.
BUT, generally where this problem has occurred both these values have been false, so it may not be the fix required in this instance.
FYI this was first raised in March last year (http://www.subsim.com/phpBB_archive1/viewtopic.php?t=31666 - you may need to relog into the archives to view), so has been in the game since day 1!
Like the "unrecorded tonnage and start dates" bug, it seems linked to SH3's "Save and Exit" functionality, which is prolly why there are so many "avoid Save and Exit" posts on this forum! ;)

Also should you have installed GW mods then the Esc will end your career if you'r to fare away from your Base

Hi Rogerbo,
JSCones is right. You have been bitten by the "War Has Ended" stock SH3 bug. This is not a new problem introduced by the Grey Wolves Mod.
Just now I tried to reproduce the bug by going out to sea and using escape. Nothing unusual or unexpected happened... for me the war continues.
The save routines for SH3 are simply screwed up and often seem to strike at random.
Furthermore, for those who are not aware... on occasion when it appears that your tonnage/renown has not been awarded to you after completing a patrol... go to your career office menu and select records. View your captain's log... often it will show up there when it will not otherwise on other screens.

I have GW 1.0 and the Update 1.1 so when i'm more then 5 Km out of my basis and i want to end my patrol by pressing Escape then i get the message "End Carerr" only if i'm within the 5 KM i can continue the carerr.
I just had it happen to me--
some one needs to change it so it reads
"the war has ended for you--you have been captured by Algerian Space Pirates"
or something a little more sensible
it's a stock random event--
"you have been killed by a hit and run driver"
or summat--
the more the merrier--
Ok this bug happened to me twice, both times during the second patrol.
With my new career I haven't used the save & exit button once and it still didn't happen, and it's my 5'th patrol. :)
So maybe that's the problem... we shall see

Gentlemen, you have my sympathies... however the GW team has not modded anything regarding SH3's save-game routines. We haven't even tried.
If you experience the "war is over" bug try to implement the fix that JSCones discusses in his post above on this thread.
