Next sunday at 16:00 Finnish TV2 airs 40-minute dokumentary "Sukellushälytys" about Finnish submarine operations during WWII.

Anyway, what is most interesting that during the war Finnish subs were used directly againts Soviet submarines, and managed to sink three, including one by ramming.
As far as I know Germans lost six boats in the gulf of Finland, and the Soviets lost 40 boats, most of them by mines, not a single Finnish sub were lost, althought there was a several close calls, like when Saukko during depth charge attack stopped her engines and descended to bottom, most of the crew lost consciousness because of lack of oxygen, but those few who were still conscious managed to surface the boat.

Thank you very much, seems to be quite interesting. It´s a pity that only few in this forum (at least i think so) speak finnish or receive finnish TV.

Thanks Saukko! Hieno juttu! Gotta watch that one  There's hardly any documentaries about finnish submarine forces in WWII. Sadly that was the only time Finland had submarines.

I think the fact that they managed to not lose even one of their subs is impressive and praiseworthy!

(just think of the famed number with which Das Boot starts for the Germans...)

Hey thanks for letting us know.
I've never really experienced anything about Finnish submarines, so I'm definitely goiing to watch this document

Well, neither we had so many operations, have to say.
But in Helsinki today you can find Vesikko, (ex CV-707), the prototype of II-class german boats.
