Playing with NYGM so I guess i can blame myself. Came across a task force with a nelson and a revenge in the middle. I lined up and put 4 torps in Nelson's port side but she did not sink ( I should add that the torpedoes were very well spaced and not all in one spot), after an hour or so she started listing a little bit to the side but she didn't slow down at all, kept up with the task force and disappeared from my sight 4 hours later. :damn:

Has anyone actually managed to sink a nelson with NYGM? From what I've read battleships do not take that much beating to go down. 3 hits out of 4 really should do the trick. Maybe you just need that critical hit to take her down...

I sure have. Also - I once sunk a Revenge with a single shot to the bow - no explosion, just buoyance sinking. Her nose went under and she followed. Sounds like you had ****ty luck. It's not reasonable that a Nelson should take 4 torps well spread to one side and laugh it off. NYGM is generally solid, but occasionally it is profoundly unfair. Sometimes you just lose.

With GW 1.1 and NYGM, I took out a Nelson with 2 torps. Both in the same spot, right around the stack in the back.

Another time, it took 5 and a Revenge took 6 to bring down.

Unless you can hit where you want, it's a crapshoot. :) (these were all impact detonators appx 4m below the surface)

I just got done sinking the HMS Rodney. I snuck into a convoy at night and lined up to put four eels into her starboard side from 90º bow angle. I put two right under the bridge (fuel bunker) and two right under the middle of the three fore turrets (fore ammo bunker). I don't know which one sent her to the bottom as I dove immediately upon firing, but all four hit and then I got the message that she was going down. I think it was the ammo bunker shot that got her since it was about the third impact that sent the message that she was going down and I fired from left to right (stern to fore).

Capital ships can be tough to sink when parked, as well. I've put 7-8 into them and they still don't go down. I try to make sure I spread them out more now, but on open water at 20+ knots they tend to go to the bottom a lot easier.

Battleships are so fun to hunt, it's hilarious. Not easy, by any means, but fun!
The other day I came upon a task force the FIRST day of that new campaign, containing some five DDs and two Revenge. A shot to the starboard rear from around 70 degrees left the BB listing. She dropped down to 14 knots, the rest continued at 21. After that it was just a matter of patience; she was followed, and once turning a bit, three more torps hit her, but to little effect. The fifth struck her after she had gone completely limp, but it took so long for her to sink I thought she would NEVER do. My fault for not sending any magnetic ones her way, but...

Talk about luck!

Started a new career in 1944 with SH3Cmdr and 11th Flotte just so I could try the XXI for once (never used it before... and I've owned the game since day one!).

Well, I was travelling west and kept getting these 'radar detected!'. I ignored them and continued to sail on the surface, making sure my AA guns were manned.

Well, lo and behold, a shat-ton of DDs show up. I'm like, great.

So, I look through my UZO to check bearings and - SHIPS AHOY!!!

Illustrious Fleet Carrier, bearing 347 degrees!

I immediately go to periscope depth, ahead full (they already saw me so I didn't care), set all 6 for impact det (using all Type III Electrics), closed to 3700+m and ripped them all off in rapid succession.

Damned if all 6 didn't hit and detonate. :D Turns out I only needed about 3 of them as she erupted in spectacular fashion.

Ironically, I got away quite easily...

With the XXI, I think that's the easiest thing

I can't way it up in a career if I see a "Nelson Class BB" I tend to aim for the 3rd Turret or the bridge with a 2 fish salvo and it has not failed me yet she has gone down.
Now In the single mission "Bismark" a salvo of 4 fish fired at a wide spread first hits her bow 2nd hits her below the first turrert the 3rd shot hits her just below the second turret and then the 4th 3 turret but that just slowed her down.
Then I did the same mission again and this time she was listing for some reason (never even fired a shot) I thought she was goin down all on her own still fire a full spread all hit fish hit her deck/super structure and capsized in 20 secs flat I just can't weigh it up.
