lol!

Hello kind sailor chaps!

I've had SHiii pretty much since it came out and yes I am new to sub simming so please dont shout at me for playing the entire war on 0%! I guess i was eager to find out how it ended :)

Anyhow on my 2nd captainship I just tried 60% and sunk a small merchant thinger and a t3 tanker! Obviously i am going to have to work on my solutions a wee bit as it took all of my v11b's torps bar three to do it!

Anyhow i do have some questions and i am sure some kind soul will point me in the right direction. Now I've been reading about all these lovely mods and things and i really have no idea what ones i should be getting, is GW the definitive? what would you recommend, also what does GW do exactly?

When i first drove the xxi I really hated it, but after my last campaign i have grown to love the beasty, is there anyway i can get hold of it earlier in the campaign? Do the mods let me pick and choose which sub i can steer?

Apparently you can get skins for the boats? how and where from lol I really dont like surfacing and seeing all that rust!

I must admit that perhaps i went a bit mad with 60% I think i should settle for manual torping for a while until i get the hang of it, I see the thread above should point me in the right direction there.

Anyhow thanks for any help glad to meet you all

(I've bitten the bullet and am downloading GW do i need to download all of those parts? the other link doesnt seem to work, the readme is pretty impressive so I'll have a wee butchers)

Hmm I've tried all sorts but to no avail. the grey wolves loading screens and such work, but when i try to load a campaign or start a new one, even a single mission i get a CTD

Any ideas?

Have you installed it over a fresh, unmodded SH3 plus patch 1.4b?

yip

This is the first mod I've tried lol. I'll keep at it, but no matter what i seem to do it crashes on loading any mission..

Please check if GW was unpacked correctly. The unpacked GW folder should contain 2800 files, folder size 1.8GB.

Read step by step instructions from read me file:
Grey Wolves Supermod joining and installation instructions

Please read all installation instructions BEFORE INSTALLING :O)

Here is how to merge them all.
1. On your desk-top create a new folder and title it "Grey Wolves Version 1.0" or whatever you like.
2. Unzip each dowloaded portion to your desktop.
3. Navigate into each portion and copy the "data" folder into the new folder on your desk-top that you created in step one.
4. When prompted to "overwrite" the data folder on subsequent copying from each portion click "Yes"
5. When you come to the folder listed as GW Documentation and optional mods DO NOT copy to the data folder. Simply paste this NEXT TO the "data" folder in the folder you created in step one.
6. You now have a JGSME Mod Enabler compatible folder. Simply copy the entire folder that you created in step one into C:/Program Files/Ubisoft/SilentHunterIII/Mods folder. (Note: if you do not have a "C:" drive use whatever drive is your usual.... for example: D:/Program Files/Ubisoft/SilentHunterIII/Mods folder.)
7. To install The Grey Wolves without using the JGSME Mod Enabler simply copy the "data" folders and "GW Documentation and optional mods" directly over the "data" folder in a CLEAN/NEW Installation of SH3 that has been patched to version 1.4b
The file pathway you will use is C:/Program Files/Ubisoft/SilentHunterIII/data
If you have performed this correctly you will be prompted to overwrite the "data" folder that resides there.

Hi, SnyperAL, welome aboard.

Most people here will NOT hold it against you for playing on 0%, or any other level. We only get our backs up when you brag about how wonderful you are sinking 5 million tons on your first patrol!:rotfl:

I think you'll find Grey Wolves to be just the thing. It gives a nice balance, tending toward the side of making it FEEL real.

I also recommend SHIII Commander, mainly because it lets you control things a lot more finely.

Good Hunting.

Just what i am looking for then!

I didnt sink 5million tons on my first patrol.. only 4.5 the iid I think the first U-boat you start with, only has 5 torps so i used them all up, and got the rest by ramming! :o

Tbh i was really dissapointed about how the game ended, last patrol and that was it lol.. I mean a thank you or something would've been nice!

Ah well happy trails
