Subsim Monitor

All hear this, Subsim Radio Room forums now converted to commercial software, vBulletin.

New forums are running. There are several tasks left before everything is complete, finishing the Ranks system, adding all the Custom Ranks and avatars, rebuilding the search engine, fully checking the usergroup status. This will be done over the next 24 hours, many thanks for your patience.

All your PMs are in your INBOX, you can move the ones you want to keep in a SAVE folder by going to the control panel, on the left side, "Edit Folders" and add a SAVE folder. Then move what you want. You can also export your PMs to your PC.

Check your signature, you may need to update it. Please limit your signature image size to 400wide by 150 high.

You can change styles by going to the bottom of the forum, left side, a drop down for styles.

In each forum, at the bottom are the Display Options. I plan to change all the forums to show threads over the last 100 days or so, but for now, you may want to have a look at the menu. In the individual forum, bottom.

If you have a problem, question, or observation about something you think needs to be fixed, please post it here

Enjoy!
Neal

There appears to be a problem with banners / ads overlapping one another. Is it just my browser?

Sorry for the multiple requests, but when I am in the forum home page, the various sub-fora expand past the width of my page and I either have to go to a higher resolution or else use the scroll function.

However, when I use the "New Posts" function, everything is nicely condensed onto the smaller screen. Would it be possible to reduce the forum home page for those of use with the smaller screens?

What did you sick people do to him? Is he still alive? Is he in healthy conditions? He is old and fragile, rumors say he's being tortured as Subsim's staff attempts to put him inside that tiny little Windows Trash Bin.

Just tried the Admin style. Same result. The Forum description seems to be just too long.

I went and tried 1024 x 768 pixels and everything shows up on one page, but the script is kind of small for my old eyes. ;)

Seems to be only for the forum home page. The individual sub-fora and individual threads appear to show up on a single page without the need to scroll Left --> Right

Second : I'm not sure it this is a problem or not... my email address is correct in my USER CP area, however if I click the 'msn' button that apears below my subsim avatar, the address appears mispelled. I cannot tell if this is a typo or a font error.

I like the new forums. However, one thing that I've always hated about the vBulletin type of forums is there ultra clickyness with excessive subsectioning.

For example, General Discussion is now a subsection of General, which when clickied will unneccesarily take you to the General Subsections menu, or DW clicky will now subdivide to DW subsections with when clicked can take you to the actual DW disscusion which has a DW Multiplayer as its own subsection...

Not that its really that big a deal, but it gives more of a cluttered appearance and actually counteracts itself to look less, not more, organized... is there a way to tone down the subsection clickyness to more like the original "less-clicky" old forums?

Well, I have to admit that, if I were a new user here, all I could say is something like: "wow, that's fantastic, the best forum ever seen"

Unfortunately, I am the sort of moron who can appreciate the new brilliant shoes, but is reluctant to use them feeling more comfortable with the older ones; to give an honest answer, I need lot of use of this new forum.

Until now, I noticed just some minor malfunctions:
1) I can't reply to private mails, as every time I try "explorer" has an error and falls down.
2) My new thread about the above said problem today seems disappeared.
3) I had to repeat my login to post what I am saying; maybe the same problem shown in a different section, unread by me until now not knowing to have any log in problem.

Out of that, the new forum seems ok.

Since no one has mentioned it, I must be the only one getting odd characters in certain posts. Mostly it's a capital A with a caret over top, but have seen other symbols too. It appears to occur around certain puntuation marks and only by some posters.

A cool feature would be to have a link to "New Posts" separate for DW and SH3 categories. It is pretty simple, just add to the original New post link

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/search.php?do=getnew

an &include= or &exclude=with the right number for the category (169 for DW).

Sorted Neal... my msnm address is now correct. I'm assuming the forum changeover had something to do with the typo in the 'new' section where you add personal information.

Has something changed with the colours in the new forums in the last hour or so? I am now having great difficulty reading the buttons at the top of the forum screen. The ones in question at the top are UserCP, FAQ, Members List, Calender, New Posts, Search, Quick Links, and Logout. I can barely distinguish the words due to the colour because the background bar is in the haylazblue setting. I have to run my mouse over the buttons for them to change colour and be clearly visible.

Don't know if you saw this one but can you set it so that someone can set the text in their post to the fourm default?

Iīve found a rather idiotic way to restore the default color. Mark the text, then add tags by clicking the PHP, <> or # icon, then remove the tags again.

Neal are you planning to put the Subclub link back on the forum page?

Yes, will do eventually. I have to make some new buttons and find a place for them.

Something I miss: the direct link optional buttons for each member, i.e. 'PM', 'Email' etc.

I always kept my email button open so nobody would have to PM me with "send me your email address".

There an easy way to sent a PM. Just click on the member name on the left side of your screen and a litle menu pops up.

I would like to make two suggestions:

1. Change the edit boxes so that your url tags don't resolve. That is to say, {url=http://www.something.com}Something!{/url} stays in code form and does not resolve to it's final post appearance. This facilitates editing. I can understand the functionality of it's current form, but more often than not, I need to see the actual http link instead of the resolve text.

2. Please don't resolve {img} tags. I am unable to actually delete an image tag once it's been placed, other than canceling the post. If I was editing a post where I had already accidently placed some 2MB animated .gif, I don't know how I'd be able to get rid of it. I know it's the poster's responsibility to check file sizes before linking stuff, but copy-n-paste accidents do occur. Disabling the {img} tag altogether might be the easiest way to go about it, but would still be preferable to future spamers.

Click it, then press Delete.
