O/T HELP!! Nv4_disp.dll Infinite Loop

Every thing freezes in sh3 and i get this Nv4_disp.dll Infinite Loop
... Same card for a year now.... Any one know how to fix this :(

All I can suggest is that you go to guru of 3D

Then click on the downloads tab goto>>>Generic Utilities, and download Drive cleaner pro

Once you have it installed, b sure to have your nvidia driver handy be it downloaded or on cd rom.

Goto Control panel and delete your nvidia drivers, you will then have to reboot, after the reboot RUN drive cleaner pro this will get rid of any residual nvidia registry info once it has cleaned, you can then go ahead and re-install your nvidia drivers.
Also be sure to TURN OFF you anti virus whilst installing nvidia.

You will then have a nice clean install of your driver and hopefully the Nv4_disp.dll Infinite Loop, wil have been cured :up:

Hey, I have an nVidia GeForce 6600GT running 81.95 drivers. Could I expect any benefit from updating to newer drivers, or are the newer drivers optimised for newer cards (in other words I wouldn't gain anything)?

I see the latest stable nVidia drivers are 84.21. Any good? I'm not keen on running any beta drivers.

No.. Ive tried IL2 strum... and it does the same infinite loop.

Try and reinstall DirectX:

HMMM, tried installing DirectX, never had any problems before, now it tells it has not passes certification and fails to load. What evere is causing this is more than likely causing the infinite loop

when trying to install directx:

the first box says: The software you are trying to install has not passed windows logo testing to verify its compatibility with windows xp. this software will not be installed contact your system administratior.
---- click ok--

then the second box
Directx did not copy a required file.


this copy of directx is the one on the sh3 disk. have installed several times.

all the old drivers ive been trying ome up as not passing the windows logo test even though they say they do in the readme.

Every copy of i try of directx will not installed.

now error box says "directx did not copy a required file"

I safe moded and cleaned drivers enough to get windows to recoginize my display driver as being certified. Direct x still will not reinstall.
any 3d game still freezes and infinite loops.

JScones, you might want to try the Nvidia 84.XX series of drivers by all accounts from both overclocking sites and regular Nvidia sites they are the best drivers that Nvidia have produced, I have a 6600GT I'm using a modified driver from the site mentioned above called Ultraforce 84.66 "Sedona" on my machine I have a big upsurge on FPS on most games I play See this thread :

Hilis Hatki, I'm sorry you are having this problem but from what you are now describing, is a much more serious error than getting SH3 to run, As to getting your copy of Windows back to 100% order. If you cannot download Dierct X which is a certified windows product, I can only see one real course of action, which I'm sorry to say is a re-install of windows product, you might want to try putting your windows cd in and letting it boot up. I think also there is a "Repair" function after you hit install windows , this would then just scan your system files and hopefully repair whatever errors you have.


Sorry to not help you further but I aint no comp whizz (I know just enough to get by)

Thanks Deep Six.... Yes i did a install, no format, just a reapair install then i went to safe mode and cleaned the drivers. I saw some files that were cleaned that were not cleaned before. some with a * in their name. Reinstalled drivers and they passed the windows logo.

Still getting the loop and freeze. no directx install. registry problem maybe.
dxdiag tells me that all directplay8 service providers registry entries are missing or damaged.

Ive been using rivatuner pass few weeks to control fans and fast writes. have uninstalled it.

is this causing the conflict?
