My hand picked minimum crew works efficiently to supply me with the anihilating thunderbolts hurled by whatever capricious whim points me at any living target.

I bought SH3 just for this moment.

It pales in comparison to standing on a IIA in 1945. Never done it myself; is it possible to last that long in such an obsolete boat?

I got the same feeling when I was given my first XXI.
Fantastic boat.

In reality it had a lot of teething problems since it's production was kind of rushed.

Yes the first real war patrol took place in 1945 a few days away from the fall of Berlin. So when you get your hands on one in the game in 1944 enjoy every moment.
