What is your next non-naval sim game that you play all the time? I'm looking for a couple of fun new games to play in a different genre.

I'll give mine...

...Homeworld2  yes I still play it. Its one of the most moddable games I know and its fun to experiment with new weapon combinations and AI behavior programmed yourself.

...Orbiter. :o yep, that's right. Its not a naval sim but a fun/challenging space sim... and is also mod-a-rific :yep: . Mastering the RL flight dynamics is challenging so keep me interested.

Falcon 4.0 - patched to SP4.2 OCI, running the Korea 2005 campaign
The old benchmark in flight simulation technology (there is no more new one  )

Rome: Total War - modded with Rome: Total Realism 6.3

...and that's all. In fact besides these two and SHIII, I pretty much haven't touched any games in the last year-and-something.

Just curious - what do you do with FFUR? Single player or multi?

I love OFP, but since exhausting most of the SP material, I haven't found much to do with it... so now I'm here patiently waiting for Armed Assault :P

I always get myself drawn back to Freespace 2.

The great thing about it is at the easier levels it's a standard space combat game, but as the difficulty gets higher it's a tactical combat game.

e.g. on Easy, it's not complete suicide to attack a capital ship head on, as long as you can dodge the beam cannons.

On Very Hard, you won't even think about going NEAR an enemy capital ship without bombs or subsystem disruptors and a very good sense of when to evade! :P

Baldur's Gate :smug: still draws me back, along with Deus Ex :sunny: and Pirates! :ping:

I've never played 2005 or the competitor. But it is much better than 2004 in almost every possible way.

The only criticism I have is that while the stadiums do look amazing, there dont seem to be as many of them, and there are some notable ones missing; Suncorp: home of the reds (ballymore is the brisbane venue WTF!/), subiaco: home of the force, docklands: melbournes test venue).

But thats just superficial stuff really, gameplay, graphics, sounds are all great.

I'm more or less strictly an online player nowadays and Eve has pretty much monopolized by game time since October of last year.

Still loaded on my hard drive are the various flavors of IL2 and of course SHIII which i still fire up occasionally.

I played Eve from 2 weeks after release until about 2 years into the game... but after a while, the promises in the developers grew pretty tiresome, and I realized that mostly why I continued to play is because of what was "eventually" claimed to come out, not because I would really play the game happily as is. I also realized that the "soon" blogs, and "future plans" announcments issued by the developers were actually a ploy to keep people from leaving and paying to play... and a smart tatic it is. The last straw was when I calculated how much money I had actually given to CCP to play a game that for most of its gametime wasn't fun! :nope: :damn: ... and I was pretty much ashamed :(

I guess our Eve experiences differ then.

Perhaps it's because i'm in a very good corp made up of ex-flight simmers that i have known and gamed with for years. We have a blast pvping and doing missions together.

As for future plans and improvements, well from my short by comparison 7 month perspective, not much has been promised and what has has been delivered, but in any event i like the game as is, not (necessarily) what it might become.

You gotta admit it has a depth that few games, and even less mmrpogs, can come close to matching.

It's easy, hold down the right mouse button and scroll until you have selected the sniper-suitcase. To detonate the bomb you have to use the bomb detonator, dont forget that you have to be close to the bomb to detonate it, the detonator has a range limit. :know:

I didn't really like it. Probably because it was a tutorial, but it seemed too linear. The Hitman 2 demo gives you more freedom of movement. (and so does the first game in the series, but I'd avoid that as the controls are terrible).

That's it basically other than subsims. I haven't played a flight sim in a very long time. Sometimes I think I would like to start again or dig out the old flight sims, but I can't bring myself to do it. I think my flying days are over. I would like to get Oblivion sometimes, though I'm not sure when.

Yes it is one of the deepest games out there today, so deep but yet still so shallow IMHO. Not a fun enough universe to pay money for IMHO

Funny you should say that. I used to be an avid MiG Alley'er and just yesterday tried to get it to work on my new comp. It works, but loading times are ridiculously long for some reason. Definitely an all time classic, and I too hope MiG Alley 2 comes out. They made BoBII look absolutely great, pretty stable (for me, at least), and it's still got that same great gameplay. :)
